Swim
Comments: Obviously not my strong suit...started off a little out of sorts through the first 200. Sun was right in my eyes so sighting was difficuly. Once I made the turn, got into a decent rhythmn and sucked it up from there. Not really happy with my time, although I was shooting for under 41 minutes which shows you how bad a swimmer I am!!! What would you do differently?: OWS practice....need to get more comfortable. I thought with the wetsuit I would have less fear...but my arm strength is lacking so I need to do some off season workouts! Transition 1
Comments: Pretty eas transition here...first time with a wetsuit and no big issues there. Just need to speed it up a little bit more. What would you do differently?: Not Much...just get quicker! Bike
Comments: I was excited for this leg since it was my first race on my new bike. Everything was going well and I was on good pace (stuck to my plan from scouting out the course the night before). Then around Mil 15 I hit a major bump after a long downhill and my aero bottle went flying. It was a new addition just a couple of days before and apparently I didn't install it correctly. Spent the next 7 minutes trying to reattach it with the velcro that broke...big bummer and I was so pissed listening to all those bikes fly past me on the course. I got everything rigged and was off again. Decent ride considering I lost that 7 minutes. What would you do differently?: Install damn aero bottle correctly...lesson learned! Transition 2
Comments: Easy transition here....off the bike...into the shoes and I was off and running! What would you do differently?: Not much...other than learn to get out of my shoes while still on the bike. Run
Comments: Started out pretty easy and eventually caught up to a guy in my age group. Decided to follow him until mile 3 and see how my legs felt. Got to mile 3 and decided to wait one more mile before I did anything. I didn't want to go too hard too early. As soon as mile 4 came around...took off and passed him and another in my AG...legs felt great and kicked it on in for my fastest 10k ever! What would you do differently?: Not much.. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with the wife and ate some rice and beans...drank some bevvies and then headed back to the hotel for a shower! What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim and bike mishap Event comments: Pinehurst is a great race destination...would like to do this again at some point to see if I can beat my time! Stayed at the Homewood Suites bout 10 minutes from the race site. Very nice suite which allowed me to get up and start the morning without interfering with the wife's sleep. Had a couple of sandwich thins with peanut butter and a couple of banana's...drank some gatorade and did a little ligt stretching at the hotel.
Got to the race site with plenty of time....set up tranisition and watched teh bathroom line fill up quickly. It still amazes me there are only a 30 or some port-o-potty's with all these people racing. Luckily I got in early and then went in the woods later.
