Swim
Comments: Horrible....started ou fairly slow at an easy pace and then for whatever reason my breathing went all to hell and I just got out of synch! Was passed by the two people behind me and luckily there was a break before the next group so I didn't have to deal with any traffic. Last 100 was ok as I was just trying to grind it out and get out of the pool. I was really surprise when I looked at my watch and saw 10:48...felt like I had been swimming for at least 15 minutes! What would you do differently?: At this point I don't know. This was my last pool swim for the year...open water for the rest of the season and I am taking an OW swim clinic on May 22nd...so hopefully that will help. Just need to continue to work on my form in the water and get more comfortable. Transition 1
Comments: Easy transition...first time I raced in clipless pedals. Easy to get my bke shoes on and then I was out the gate. What would you do differently?: Not much...only time lost was fiddling with my helmet. Bike
Comments: Best bike time of my early career! I realy pushed hard on the bike (probably a little too hard) but really wanted to prove to myself I could ride better after my last race here in the cold and rain! Clipless pedals definatley were beneficial and stayed in aearo as long as I ever have...Goal was to hit 17.5mph and beat that! Very happy! Drank on every downhill run...so did pretty good there. Ate a Gu at mile 7...may have been to late. What would you do differently?: I still need to work on my pacing, but that will come with time! I just need to continue to get more time on the road and work on my mechanics! Need to work on nutrition and hydration timing. Transition 2
Comments: Easy enough....off with the bike shoes...on with the socks and running shoes and out the gate fairly quick! What would you do differently?: I hadn't praticed riding on top of my shoes...that is something I need to practice....although running in the bike shoes wasn't as difficult as I was expecting. Run
Comments: As soon as I started running I was hit with a major side stitch. I knew I was on pace to come close to my goal time so I took a couple of quick walks through the 2 water stations and then bit the bullet and ran through it. Very happy with my time considering, but I know I can go faster! What would you do differently?: Figure out nutritiion and hydration...worst side stitch I have run with in a while and don't want to do that again! Post race
Warm down: Drank a boatload of HEED, ate some pizza, oranges, banana and granola bars. Hung out with the family and waited around watching the other competitiors come in. This was the first time I actually waited around to see my time posted as I was pretty sure I cam close to my Goal time. What limited your ability to perform faster: Crappy swim....and wicked side stitch during the run....probably couldhave shaved another minute or so off my time. Event comments: Set-up always does a good job....post race was a little weak, but this was a smaller race. Interested to see how the bigger races are handled. Last updated: 2011-01-05 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5:15am for a 6 am departure. Grabbed a couple of pieces of toast with peanut butter on one and jelly on the other. Ate a protein bar and started drinking water. Got to the site around 6:30am and set up transition area. No big deal here...although it was funny to see 2 participants squabbling over space...to the point where one guy went and got an official to straighten it out! Geez...can't we all just get along!
Race started at 8am....my pool start was at 9:08am so needless to say there was alot of sitting around with the family. Rode the stationary for about 10 minutes to warm up, then swam a couple of warm up laps...peed...peed....peed!
