Swim
Comments: got really cold waiting in the rain for the start so I was really glad to get into the water and warm up! Did some warmup stroking and then tried to find a good starting spot. Lots of bumping out to near the first turn buoy and then clear water the rest of the way. A pretty average OWS for me. 122/162 OA 23/42 F 2/5 AG Transition 1
Comments: Transitions have become the strongest part of my race! There's about 300m from swim out to TA and I ran it pretty hard. Got my swim skin to my waist and goggles, cap, and earplugs out before getting to my rack. Had an issue getting the skin over the funky, high profile chip they used. I've been practicing a shoe-on-bike start, so I ran it out to the mount line barefoot. 33/162 OA 5/42 F 2/5 AG (can't believe I was beaten by 1 second!) What would you do differently?: do it all even faster Bike
Comments: I got mounted well, but I had forgotten to open the straps on my shoes so I fumbled for a while getting into them. I definitely could have pushed this ride harder, but I still passed more than passed me. Left the shoes on the bike and did a running dismount. 125/162 OA 23/42 F 3/5 AG Transition 2
Comments: Barefoot run into TA. Had some trouble getting my wet feet into my running shoes and dropped my hat while putting on my race belt. I would have had this under 1:00 if not for the hat. 34/162 OA 6/42 F 1/5 AG What would you do differently?: Faster! Run
Comments: My goal was to finish with a pace under 10minutes/mile with a stretch goal of under an hour. My plan was to go out at 10:10 and come back at 9:45 for a finish just under 10. Well, I was feeling strong and running faster than planned from the get go but tried to keep my pace in check. After the turn around I was still feeling strong and started to up the pace. With 1.5 miles to go I was feeling super strong and really started pushing it. I sprinted the last half mile and then gave it what was left into the chute; in the chute I passed a woman with "51" on her calf (turned out she was sprinter). What would you do differently?: I am thrilled with this run, but wasn't completely spent at the end, so maybe I had some more to give earlier? Post race
Warm down: some walking and water; the rain took care of any overheating. What limited your ability to perform faster: I know I could have done the ride faster; I guess I lost some focus here. Event comments: The weather was awful, but the race directors did a great job of getting our race in with a swim and bike and run. We started 30 minutes late but that was completely understandable under the circumstances. The after race events were not well organized, again because of the weather. into bed about 10pm and actually managed to turn my mind off and got a pretty good sleep. Up about 5am; breakfast of cereal and banana. Headed through the rain to the race site at 6am. Set up TA in the rain and then tried to get the 411 on what was happening. I was supposed to have a shake an hour before race start, but I lost track of time and it was more like only 30 minutes before the start. Also had a gel about 15 minutes before.
Race start was delayed 30 minutes bc of the rain and the Oly swim and bike were shortened.
There was no keeping warm or warming up
