Swim
Comments: Big-ish buoys, but sighting was still an issue. Better on the second lap because I knew what to look for on the shore. Didn't have long to get in the water after the race briefing and was still heading for the start line when they started. As a result was feeling a little panicked for the first few minutes. However it wasn't too crowded at the back and I had a chance to find my rhythm and just got on with it. Once I'd done the first lap I got pretty comfortable and the second lap went well. Really pleased with my time. What would you do differently?: Get in the water faster so that I'm not losing a bunch of time just getting to the start line. Transition 1
Comments: Used baby oil on the wetsuit for the first time. It really helped and the suit slipped right off in transition. Got slightly stuck on one heel, but pretty good overall. Otherwise went about the same as usual. Really pleased that my T1 time is only a few seconds slower than the ones with pool swims. What would you do differently?: Still need to get myself a little more organised, but overall this is not going to make any huge differences. Bike
Comments: Had intended to pace this at the same as the steelman but failed miserably. Landed up going much too fast, but was fine for the distance of this one. Cadence was slower than ideal, but that's a work in progress. Managed to stay on the tri bars for almost the entire route. New seat was great in the aero position. What would you do differently?: For this distance I think it was about right. Transition 2
Comments: Had trouble getting my bike on the rack because it was so tight. Also nearly forgot to get the garmin off the bike mount which slowed me down. What would you do differently?: Remember to take the garmin off the bike earlier. Run
Comments: Felt really tough getting off the bike, but got into my stride and just kept it going. Ran almost all the way with Kevin, which wasn't planned, but was quite nice. Not sure how much it affected my pace. Was also quite nice running past so many people I knew. There were a lot of people calling out supportive comments as we ran past. What would you do differently?: Nothing other than getting fitter! Post race
Warm down: Went in the lake up to my waist and let my legs recover. Seems to have prevented stiffness. What limited your ability to perform faster: General fitness. Everything went as well as I am capable of doing it. Event comments: Only one drink station on the run, but we passed it twice. Not much in the way of post race activities, but there were plenty of people from our club for a little social. Last updated: 2011-01-08 12:00 AM

Got everything ready and into the car last night except the bikes. Had a large bowl of porridge at 6.30am. Had a few issues with the new bike rack on the way, but I think we've figured it out now.
Got there, got registered. Put everthing in transition then got into wetsuit. Used baby oil on legs and arms and put some on the outside of the legs.
Swam out to the start line. That's all I had time for after the race briefing.
