Swim
Comments: The start was right into the rising sun so it was hard to see the far buoy. This year, they did waves based on age and I was in wave 6. I knew right away the swim would be crowded as you could see some of the earlier wave swimmers struggling. Started off right along the buoy line, had a little contact, but once I was around the first turn, I fell into a nice pace. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Swimming 2X a week, one a master's class, really helped. 2010 time 19:34 2011 time 14:44 Transition 1
Comments: Much better than last year. I'll admit I had no idea what I was doing last year and I am happy with this time. They make you stuff your wetsuit into a bag to be brought to T2 and that just takes time. What would you do differently?: Practice more or swim without wetsuit. 2010 time 6:05 (yeah, you read that right) 2011 time 2:59 Bike
Comments: Big improvement on the bike. last year, I rode my Trek 7300 hybrid. This year I am on my Cervelo S1. Been training hard and it paid off here. Felt great from the start and saw I was well over 18 mph avg with about 3 miles to go. Hammered it the rest of the way. What would you do differently?: Keep working the engine. I ride the course as part of my training so it helps with the familiar surroundings. No wind but some of the training rides were brutal into the wind. Perhaps add aerobars? 2010 time 1:02:39 2011 time 49:31 Transition 2
Comments: Quicker than last year despite the fact that I now have clipless pedals so I had to change shoes. What would you do differently?: Not much. Happy with this time. 2010 time 1:43 2011 time 1:21 Run
Comments: Felt great coming off the bike. Took me about 1/2 mile to get my legs under me. Been doing bricks so I knew I would feel fine. Pleased with the run as my pacing was consistent. What would you do differently?: More bricks. 2010 time 39:13 2011 time 36:01 Post race
Warm down: Actually smiled going around on the path. My wife was there with the video so I gave a fist pump. Knew I smashed last year's time and also beat my goal times. Walked around, got some Gatorade and water. Checked some times then rode back to Costco. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just more training. I have an oly in 2 weeks so I still plan on crushing my training this week. 2010 total 2:09:16 2011 total 1:44:34 Event comments: LITH does a great job with all their races. Highly recommend this race. Last updated: 2011-01-08 12:00 AM

Woke up repeatedly during the night. Finally got out of bed at 4:30. The start is only 5 minutes from my house so I didn't need to be up so early, but what the heck. Drank some Vita Coco water as I was not really hungry. Bag all packed and bike in the back so off to Costco parking lot.
You park at Costco and ride to T2, about a mile. Drop your running gear, get body marked and then ride over to T1/swim, another mile. Felt good, talked to some people, got wetsuit on. This was my first ever tri last year so I was anxious to see improvement. Gave my wife a sheet with goal times. 2010/2011 times are reflected below.
