Pre-race routine:

Had james paint a very retarded looking shamrock on my gut. He has no artistic ability. At a big breakfast.
Event warmup:

Right. Well james showed up late to my place so we were actually at the chip booth tying on our chips as they blew the horn for the race to begin. So we didn't really get to warm up at all. Very hectic.

Comments:

I've been running distances much farther than 5k lately but this race really caused me to suffer. Just felt terrible. Much of that can be attributed to being stressed out and having to sprint to the starting line and try to catch up. Some of it can be attributed to only getting a few hours of sleep the night before. Some of it is a result of having to work really hard to get in front of all the slow people. But most of the reason i felt bad was the BEER. I'm NEVER drinking during a race again. Just awful.
What would you do differently?:

NOT DRINK BEER HANDED OUT AT MILE 1! The carbonation gave me the hicups, and then the alcohol just started fucking with me. One would think, "oh hey its just a small beer, no big deal", but then your active muscles start freaking out and your head decides that feeling good is not a top priority any more.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate an orange, talked to a bunch of racers. Didn't really stretch seeing as how it was only a 5k. James and myself did jog from the race pit to the car to get some gear (read: Driver's Licenses and Beer Money) and i guess that can be called a cool down. Actually we just really wanted to start drinking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'd have to say showing up so late (I'm normally the first guy at a race, getting everything ready, mind and body) really threw me off. The beer was just a terrible idea. I can't describe just how bad it made me feel. Compared notes with James and (of course) he also had a beer while running. Did the same thing to him. And he's Irish!

Event comments:

Race was done well. The finish is timed to lead right into the float parade (a surprisingly big ordeal) and the music was good. Drank 7 green beers and one of the (mildly) cute beer girls bought me a shot and wanted my number. I gave her the correct number (oops) but I hope she doesn't call.

Forgot to turn HRM off so the data is junk.
Course: Simple street-block rectangle. Lots of long grades up and downhill. Running lanes were a bit too skinny for 3000 people. Resulted in using alot of energy to just move past a slow group.
