Swim
Comments: I had been swimming and thought I was ready for this but got my butt whipped! I was shooting for 7.20-7.40 time and walked out of the water at 8.17 with a short run to the timing mat put me at 8.55. The first 200m I felt fine then my right goggle filled with water so I had to stop and clear it. Then for some reason I lost all my relaxation and rhythm to the point I had to side-stroke for a good 30 seconds. I have never had to do that before and I am still upset with my swim. It was my first OWS of the year but I have no excuses for my poor performance. It was a good minute to minute and a half that I gave up here. I know this is something I have to get better at. What would you do differently?: Not go against what all my training had been....long relaxed strokes. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was ok....I was at the far end of the lot so I had to run a little ways to get to my spot. The timing chip was huge compared to what I have used in the past. I actually removed it before removing my wetsuit in fear of my suit getting caught up on the chip. What would you do differently?: Not a whole lot here....maybe run a little harder from the swim to the transition area. Bike
Comments: Bike was alright until mile 9 when the police officer at the intersection was yelling left and my pea brain turned right. By the time I got turned around and back on course I probably gave up 30 seconds or more. I do think I could have pushed harder and wanted to avg. 21 mph but overall I was pleased with the ride. What would you do differently?: Follow directions from the men in blue with the flashing red/blue lights on their cars! Transition 2
Comments: I had a little hang up racking my bike for some reason and took a little longer putting my shoes on. Grabbed a quick drink of water and started the run. What would you do differently?: Get faster at putting my shoes on. Run
Comments: I felt pretty good on the run for the most part. I wanted to average around 7.00 but started off slower than I would have liked at the beginning. The last mile I ran in 6.50 and felt pretty good. What would you do differently?: Try to push harder in the beginning and keep that pace until I can get settled in. Post race
Warm down: Walk around for a little while....grabbed some drinks and fruit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim for sure and turning the wrong way on the bike course. Event comments: Overall this was a great race for beginners to seasoned racers. I will for sure be back next year, Lansing does a great job putting this race on. I am hard on myself and competitive so the swim really bothered me but I am happy for where I placed in my age group and overall. Last updated: 2011-01-09 12:00 AM

Stayed the night at my parents and slept on an air-mattress with my 2 daughters. I did not get the greatest night sleep but oh well. Got up at 4:30 and showered.....had some oatmeal with peanut butter toast and left for the park. Got there a little bit to early but enjoyed the beautiful morning.
Swam about 100m before my heat.
