Swim
Comments: First HIM distance so I think I did well in the swim for me. 28th swim time in AG isn't anything to write home about, but I was happy with my time. Transition 1
Comments: Big hill run up to bike. Bike
Comments: Stopped at mile 9 to pee. Drank way too much prior to race. For a few weeks before the race I was training in mid afternoon in severe heat and couldn't drink enough. What would you do differently?: Pee in wetsuit. However, it was a beach start so I couldn't. Once swimming, I couldn't. Also, felt crappy around mile 30 on the bike. Don't know what was wrong, but HR was dropping, while perceived exertion was rising. That eventually leveled out. Transition 2
Comments: I was going for sub 2 minutes so I like my time. I didn't lose as much water as expected on the bike so I had to pee again immediately after exiting T2. What would you do differently?: DRINK LESS. Run
Comments: RUN COURSE IS SHORT. I was told this prior to the race by others. I confirmed it on my Suunto GPS. Joe Ryan, bike next to mine, measured 12.6 on his Garmin. I stopped about 5 times to walk for about 10-20 seconds throughout the run. It was HOT. Post race
Warm down: Nothing--was exhausted and had to sit. Drank a Coke and pepped up a little. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of sufficient training time. Averaged around 9-9.5 hours per week weeks before this race. A couple more hours in the training weeks, except for R&R weeks, would have helped. Event comments: Race organizers run their age groups according to day-of age. Then they report a revised version to USAT with USAT age. Its messed up. However, for this race, I was 9th in my age-group whether it be 35-39 or 40-44. Great race for a half-iron first-timer. Last updated: 2011-01-09 12:00 AM
