Pre-race routine:

Breakfast- two peices of honey and peanut butter toast with banana slices on it. Set up transition. Forgot to take my pre-race gel
Event warmup:

Jog with race pace striders, followed by a short ride workign on cornering and going through the gears to listen for anything unusual. Swam 200 meters including a few drills.
Swim
  • 06m 39s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

goin in to it I thougt I might have seeded myself too fast. I got passes about half way through but passed the guy back at the end of the next length. I had to swim under a kid, go down the center to pass a girl doing breast stroke, and the last 25 we were 4 abreast fighting like we were in the meat grinder.
What would you do differently?:

keep working on swim speed.
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Smooth considering what i was workign with.
What would you do differently?:

Tri specific bike shoes and have them clipped to my bike before transition. Also, with a better helmet I won't need to put anything under it saving a little time.
Bike
  • 38m 3s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 18.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was nice. I only remember being passed by one person with a number above mine. I passed him a mile later. Did the first lap between 19 and 20 mph, but the seond lap around 18. I was tiring but I think I could have pushed it a little faster, but wanted to leave something in my tank for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Work on cornering and increase my speed.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 22m 42s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Got passed coming out of transition by #122. Stuck to his back the entire leg. I may have gone out a little fast on the first mile. oh well. Tried to sprint it to the finish but the 300 degree turn made it hard.
What would you do differently?:

keep up my speedwork. although #1 it was not as fast as I had planned. My planned pase would have cut a minute off of my time.
Post race
Warm down:

Went for a walk, then ate pancakes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think this was great at my level of experience.

Event comments:

Great race. ALMOST perfect for beginners.
