Swim
Comments: Swam hard but fairly steady until the final 200 meters when I realized I had a chance at a long time goal of breaking an hour. I practically pushed some people out of the way to dive to the mat when I saw my watch. so excited. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Bike
Comments: So hot and windy. Felt good for the first 2 loops, but the tired was mentally and physically hard. I was just trying to hold on as best I could to have a chance at breaking 10hrs. I ate most of a gu from a flask every 20min and a mini clif bar every 3rd time instead. What would you do differently?: Eat a bit less? ?? Transition 2
Comments: felt ok. Run
Comments: Coming out of the tent, I was happy with my position. I needed a 3:20 to break 10hrs. That would be tough, but possible. Ten steps out of the tent though, I realized it wasn't going to happen. My stomach was a bowling ball as soon as I started running. I made it a few miles, but when I started slipping and realized I wasn't going to break 10, there was no reason to kill myself or ruin a week in the Caribbean to pr by a few minutes. I decided to back off and enjoy the rest of the day. I'm not sure if I'm going soft or if that was the right decision and I guess I'll never know, but that's what I did that day. My feet were sore the whole run, but other than that I did actually enjoy the run. I ran a long time with Heidi, stopped along the way to chat with family, and splashed through puddles when the skies opened up and flooded the course with a downpour. I loved seeing everyone out there and was happy for Tim, K, and Laura doing great as well as Amy doing amazing on her first ever with Craig with her. What would you do differently?: ? Post race
Warm down: Went back to hotel for a round of applause and then cheered on all the other athletes while I had a few beers and hung out with the family and friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: ? Event comments: This was a disappointing Ironman on some accounts. The pre-race dinner was so poorly run it was unacceptable. It lacked some of the same excitement and feel of a normal Ironman and the post race food and area was terrible as well. That being said, there are other parts that were great. The location was amazing and being able to vacation afterwards is great. The volunteers and locals could NOT have been more supportive. Athletes were treated like celebrities all week. With a few tweaks this could be a great race, but I can't say it was one of my favorites. Last updated: 2011-01-11 12:00 AM

We went for an entire week and stayed at the Cozumel Palace. Not a giant resort, but very nice and location couldn't be beat.
