Swim
Comments: I need to swim more, plain and simple. Huge lake lots of room, nice easy start, no thrashing, no contact, everyone understood this, it was nice, boring but nice. There is not much more that i can say about the swim. i swam, passed peeps, got passed, by the end of the swim i could feel my legs starting to cramp, so i tried to kick some to loosen them up. What would you do differently?: Swim lots more Transition 1
Comments: Well, out of the water i had to walk as my hammies were cramping from not being used. Got to my race and had a hard time getting the wettie off as every time i bent my legs to step and stomp, my leg would cramp. Both sides. Finally i get it off and get my shoes on, helmet on, garmin on and run out of T1, legs felt great running. What would you do differently?: swim more, everything else is from lack of swimming Bike
Comments: Ok, so results show i was 8th, 3 of top 8 times were DQ or DNF, 2 of the top 5 times were elite men, so realistically i was 3rd fastest amateur bike split in field. I got beat by the M40-44 winner and BT's own Nate Thomas, who also won his AG M30-34. That being said, i had a great ride, once i got out of T1, I was ON THE GAS. I knew i had my work cut out for me due to my awesomely terrible swim. Started passing people immediately, had the power on and was hammering. At about mile 5 i actually got passed, this dood was hauling ass, i could not keep up, he just checked out, had 28 on his leg, so i figured he was Aqua bike. Passed some friends at the 8 mile mark, but with all the traffic, it is hard to try and find all your friends when you are riding, you still have to keep your wits and concentrate. By about mile 15 a guy came by me as i was reloading my aero bottle, he looked strong and had a 41 on his leg, we ended up doing the rest of the ride together pacing each other, he ended up 6th in M40-44. As we came around for the end of the first lap i could hear the BT cheering section screaming for us racers, they make this race sooo special for us that travel. Mile 27 i passed my Trigal Pal Kelly , who went on to finish 3rd in her AG W25-29!!! Congrats Kelly!! First lap was 24.1 mph, in about 1:09, we slowed a little on second loop as it started getting hot, second lap was like 1:13. Legs hurt a little, but nothing that stopped me from pedaling. Drank plenty of fluid, had 1200 calories while on the bike, and collected 1 bottle from an aid station of water and used that to pour on my head and body to keep cool. This was a good ride, I went hard, but not hard enough to really make me worry about the run. I was very happy with this ride. What would you do differently?: Lose 30lbs and no power, get out of clydesdale and take another 10 mins off bike leg. Transition 2
Comments: As i approached the turn in i tried to take my shoes off, every time my leg fully collapsed, my hammie would cramp, lol. i had hammie issues in both transitions, finally got out, sweet awesome flying dismount and ran into T2 to get ready for more fun. What would you do differently?: see above comments for bike Run
Comments: OK, so people always say you can never have a good bike followed by a bad run. Bullshit, it all depends on what you think is a good run. Most of the "fast" guys/gals on this site will say "wow" only a 2:06, you went too hard on the bike. Well..wrong. My previous Half Mary time was 2:35, i ran one half in training that was 2:11, so for me to pr this half by Ohhhh 30 minutes was a freaking great run. For me. Now onto the fun part. I started out out of trans and was immediately high Fived by Lisa (redsoxchick), what a great feeling!!! Started trudging along, legs actually did not feel bad, though about walking a bit, but was like...NO, you are good, HR is low, keep going. Legs are a little tight, but nothing bad, mile 1 rest stop had water and heed, no ice...hmmmm, hope the later ones have ice, hit the split on my watch and it was 9:15...hmmm not to shabby, lets keep it going. the miles go on, by three miles the rest stops start having ice...awesome!!!! It was getting hot, i was tired, legs were sore, HTFU was in the house. I was running all but the aid stations, being mostly alone on the course allowed me to call out what i wanted, 2 cups of water and 2 cups of ice, drank half of one water, poured it and all of the second on my head, 1 cup of ice down my suit, front and rear alternating, the other in my hand to melt some ice to drink, or to chew on. When i saw the next rest stop, i would put more down my shirt and get fresh supplies. Worked great I controlled my body temp well, and i think it is why i had such and outstanding run...for me. The miles are ticking by, i cannot get below 9:15 pace or left hammy or right quad want to cramp, take Gu or EFS power shot every 2 miles or so, i carried 600 calories on me while running and used them all. 2 Gu rocktane cherry/lime and 1 bottle of EFS shot 400cals. This was perfect. And I keep runnin runnin, runnin runnin..sorry a little Black Eyed Peas there, lol. the miles keep ticking off, i am still going strong, i have good sections where i am running 8-8:30 pace, and there are sections where i am a bit over 10. I keep thinking funny star wars thought while i run. R2 how she look...beep burpweet doodle. Ok R2 Get more power th that right front side, we are almost home. Then i am looking for my Samwise Gamgi, hopeing he will come out of no where and carry me up MT Doom..aka the final hill at mile 12.4, get out onto the highway, hear the music, police officer say half mile to go, watch says 5:10, gotta get moving, pushing through the pain, yelling at the legs, STOP CRAMPING...ALMOST HOME!!!!! turn into the camp grounds and into grass running and shade, wanted to give the guy in front of me space, but he slowed suddenly, the adrenaline that was left was now kicking in, the rush is FREAKING AWESOME, through the path, See the huge crowd, people you have never met or will ever see you again are screaming!! I am running as hard as i can, my whole freaking body is one lump of pain and hurt, sharp left on a sketchy piece of trail. left hammie locks up again, Fuck it, go faster, coming down the shoot like a dying stare getting read to flame out and this Fat Bastard here is in full sprint mode, like a linebacker chasing down a running back, one look at watch and i see i will be well below my 5:15 goal, full sprint over the mats, trying to look forward for the finisher photo, then stop watch and try not to fall over. What would you do differently?: nothing, this is a great run for my ability and training level on the run. I am very very happy with it. Post race
Warm down: OHHHHH ICE BATH, congrats the guys there, talked to Steve who passed me at mile 9. Got my medal, water, cold towel, and had to go walk a bit as my legs were cramping. What limited your ability to perform faster: i am happy. period. Event comments: Good race, lotsa volunteers. I am sure i missed something or someone in my RR, saw so many BT peeps, and we cleaned house in the awards Category, winning first in 3 categories a second and a third. Nice to meet Nate and Colin two really freaking fast doods, Colin was nice enough to come up to me and introduce himself, very cool, and the Mass Mafia make you feel so welcomed when you come visit, its like you are family. Enough rambling, hope you enjoyed. Rori, i did not forget about the bike frame info, i will get it to you. Last updated: 2011-01-11 12:00 AM

Drove up Friday morning, met some BT'ers, Dan (MSUDan), Steve (MT Giants) for a little pre race ride, nice 25 mins on bike, then went and checked in to the race and saw some more Cool BT peeps, Marianna, Lisa, Rori and a few others. Talked a little bit and then went out to dinner with those guys and a few others. Had a great haddock dinner and a HUGE black and tan beer. Woke up before alarm race morning, made 2 peanut butter and black cherry jelly sammies, mixed my fuel for the race and did typical morning things. Headed out to race, i was the first person in T1.
swam about 300 meters, just tried to stay relaxed, started to get really focused about half hour before start. Hung with my BT peeps till we all got ready to race.
