Swim
Comments: Well, Karen needs more OWS! The lake was shallow and I had a terrible time even swimming at all. I went to the inside, which I had hoped would help, but I just didn't get into a groove. I did the best I could and didn't freak out. I just couldn't find a place to swim. I've never been so happy to be pulled from a lake. What would you do differently?: MORE OWS practice. Even though it sucked, I still did it and I wasn't *dead* last. So that's a win. Transition 1
Comments: I dunno why my T1 was so slow. I felt a little shaky out of the lake, and found it impossible to run into transition, but overall, it was good. Ken stood at the end of my rack, found my bike easily. I ditched cycling gloves, my hands were too wet. No clipless = fast mount. I felt confident getting on, and not as freaked as I expected. Mount line was clear, easy out. What would you do differently?: Run from the swim more. Bike
Comments: Felt great on the bike. I passed and was passed about 50/50. Found a lot of power toward the end I could have used earlier in the ride. Clipless would have made me faster, but I was happy to make the time I did. What would you do differently?: More time on my bike on the road will fix all of my problems. I didn't even try to drink. Bike computer would have been great. Transition 2
Comments: No clipless = lightning T2 Ditched the sunglasses, they were fogging up. What would you do differently?: All good here. Remembered to take a sip of water, I was glad. Run
Comments: Nice run. Legs were tight off the bike and the first little bit was horrible. Loosened up around a quarter mile. I walked when I needed to and was pleased with my pace given the walking I did. I seemed to sweat a lot even though I didn't feel very hot. HR was great even when I was trying to run faster. What would you do differently?: Wear the Garmin. I needed the feedback and the motivation. The water at the aid station was COLD and when I drank it choked me. Also took my breath away when I tried to toss some on my neck. Post race
Warm down: Hugs, water, towels at the finish. I'm weird about eating right after races so I skipped most of the food. The after party was nice, tons of food and drinks. Kids played, ate and we chatted. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience, I am slow. Just need more OWS and bike time. Event comments: I couldn't have asked for a better first race. Obviously there were plenty of places to work, but I am so happy with my finish. I had the best cheering team in the whole place. Happy Mother's Day for sure!! Last updated: 2011-01-13 12:00 AM

Woke up early. I slept great the night before. Everything was ready to go. Got dressed, got the kids ready, ate a PBJ, drank a little coffee. Drove to the race.
I wasn't very nervous. I got my transition set up. There were tons of helpful people, I ran through the run in/out and bike in/out and felt great. Got in the lake and swam a bit. The race environment was nice, everyone seemed cheerful.
The Otts were there with the girls and Ken took tons of pictures. I felt ready, very supported, and happy.
