Swim
Comments: Awful swim! Couldn't seem to catch my breath and couldn't settle in. My goggles leaked and so every six strokes or so freestyle, I had to tread water and dump out my goggles. Couldn't get them right. But I also couldn't settle down. Heart rate felt up the entire time and breathing was erratic. This was my first open water swim this season and it showed. What would you do differently?: Try to get some open water swim practice and possibly warm up even if it is cold. Maybe I should have worn a wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: I'm not sure if the T1 time included the run up. Seems awfully fast given the distance of the run from the lake to transition zone. Possibly the swim time included the run up time. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It was a decent time. Bike
Comments: Got passed by a couple of people on this ride. Don't have any "granny" gears so it was difficult on the extremely steep parts. Was pretty satisified with my time given the flat areas I practice on. One bad thing was that I got "stopped" by a police officer at an intersection to let traffice through! I've never had this happen before. It was at the bottom of a nice hill so I couldn't use the momentum from that downward ride to go up the next hill. Then after I expended extra energy, the next hill after that one was a killer. Had to walk it up a bit. What would you do differently?: Get some more hill work in. Possibly do more spinning classes for this. Transition 2
Comments: I was pleased with this time. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Felt like I passed people, but it looks like I got passed as well because of my overall rank. I was pretty happy with how I felt on this run especially after the hard ride with all the hills. It was especially nice that my son Wesley (who had already finished) came and ran in with his sister and I. All three of us ran in together! What would you do differently?: Nothing, just keep running. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. Ate some pizza and drank a soda. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough practice on hills and a really sad-looking swim. Event comments: The promoters had lots of post-race food. Best post-race stuff I've ever had! Enjoyed it very much. Last updated: 2011-01-22 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:45. Drank coffee and ate a peanut butter sandwich with a banana. Arrived at race by 6:00 a.m.
Didn't warm up at all. Probably should have swam a bit, but the water was cold. Debated wearing a wetsuit, but decided against it because it's difficult for me to swim in one. In retrospect, I should have just worn it because I had such a terrible swim anyway.
