Swim
Comments: Swim was very good until I got to the back end and got surprised by the lily pads but then I pulled it together and got back into it. The last leg I had some trouble sighting but got it back. My time probably would have been better if I had sighted better. I roamed to the outside of the course a bit on that leg but got back on track. What would you do differently?: Sighting more. Stick closer to the buoys. Transition 1
Comments: Felt good running up from the swim. Everything was set up so finding everything was fine. The weather was cold so I felt I needed to put on long pants and my windbreaker after the swim. That took awhile. I was also trying to eat a Pria bar so I would have energy and that took awhile too. What would you do differently?: Forget the long pants/windbreaker? I'm not sure on this one. Bike
Comments: First lap was good - felt like I had energy and was pacing well but I felt like I was working hard on the second lap. I had to keep telling myself only x miles left. Maybe at that point I should have had some shot blocks? I also dropped my water bottle about half way through so had to go back and get it. I felt frustrated as everyone was passing me. Even tough some said "good job" or "keep going", it felt defeating. I definately lost time here. What would you do differently?: Shot blocks about half way through? Hill training prior to the race? Transition 2
Comments: Biking and running shoes are the same so that transition was easy. I basically took my helmet and gloves off and put my number belt and hat on. Didn't take any shot blocks. What would you do differently?: Practice dismounting. Have a few shot blocks (see below). Run
Comments: Water on the course was warm - Yuck! Luckily I took a few sips of mine before I left T2. I felt good at first but didn't want to push it and didn't take any shot blocks. Looking back on that, I should have while I was feeling good because I really started to struggle after mile 2 with keeping my pace up. I was set up good to finish the run around 30:00 but then couldn't keep up the pace. What would you do differently?: Shot blocks at T2 or in the beginning of the run. Post race
Warm down: Walking around, hydrating, snacks, stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition and hydration during the race could have been better but I really wasn't putting 2 and 2 together to realize I needed that. Also, I don't think I was in a good mental position for this race. Saturday held a lot of challenges for me and then delays pushed things to Sunday for our family. That was stressful for me. I was having one of those seems like everything is going wrong days. That was disappointing because I had been training for so long for it and then I wasn't seeing it as a good performance for myself even though I finished in under 2 hours which was one of my goals. Event comments: The police were great at the intersections and the rough parts. The participants were definately the priority. I had to rate the race average because it was my first triathlon. I really don't know how it stacks up to other races. :) I'd like to work on my biking and running for the next race. Last updated: 2011-01-23 12:00 AM

Set up my transition area. This threw me for a loop from the beginning. The transition area was VERY tight and I had to set up my area under my bike. This wasn't how I practiced it or how I was told it would be. I was expecting bike on the right and T area on the left.
Didn't warm up other than walking around.
