Run
Comments: The first 5km I went really made. Made a 5km pb for me. Because I struggle so badly, I can't often get a 5km under 40 minutes at the moment. There was a little hill just after the start downhill which I struggled on. At 4km, I had a shoe manfunction and had to remove part of my orthotics (which I now need to discuss with my podiatrist) due to some blisters and jamming my toes. By the time I got to heartbreak hill, I was already toasted. I had a gel and something to eat, and just hammered up. About halfway I had to start walking, but with the music in my ears, I kept up a pretty fast walk up the hill. By now, my achilles was burning with pain. I hate hills, seriously. Around the 11km mark when I finally got "Moves like Jagger" on my ipod, I was struggling something severe. Every time my right leg hit the ground, I could hear my knee clicking in my ear. The blisters were shithouse. My arm had some shocking chafing because the weather was wet, and I was wet... I tied my arm warmer around it to protect it a little, but it still hurts. When I crossed the line, I basically took my shoes off right away. What would you do differently?: Not one moment through the course did I think I wasn't going to make it. It was a first for me. I didn't run the whole way, but I did the best I could do on the day. Post race
Warm down: I went for a swim at Bondi to get the legs right. So glad I did. Walking around Bondi finding my wolfpack, and then a chill at the airport for the flight home. What a magnificent weekend :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of running ability as normal! Lack of hill training. I underestimated them for sure. Event comments: Fantastic event. Didn't get the social aspect like you do with smaller runs (the people on the course don't really talk to each other and have fun when they're running... might have been different with the walkers at the back!) It was pretty amazing. Last updated: 2011-01-23 12:00 AM

We got up early from our hotel in crows nest, had some breaky at the hotel and walked to the train.
We basically just followed the other runners to the start line.
We got there in time to see the green group start, and it was just amazing. When I work out how to post a video of it, I will
Not a lot. We had to walk over a km to the end of the blue start group, as well as the kilometre back to the start line once the gun went off.
It wasn't liek we got carried away with the crowd either, because there are so many people there it doesn't just take off like the other fun runs I have been in.
I got the change to warm up a little down the hill and through the tunnel, so it was ok.
Not as cold as we expected, I had gloves but they never made it on!
