Total Time = 2h 50m 46s
Overall Rank = 144/245

Age Group Rank = 6/18
Pre-race routine:

Waffels at the free breakfast at 5am,bananna, part of a Mt Dew, part of a Gatorade, one square bottle of Muscle Milk. GU 30 min before. Wave 10 went off at 8:20.
Transition closed at about 7AM, then the brief. Took off my glasses and wandered around like Mr Magoo for about 90 minutes.
Event warmup:

Wrestled into the wetsuit about 6:45. Got my face wet during intermission (between waves 7 & 8). Got out and thought that water would taste great with just a little Kool-Ade.... It was a little weedy in a few places, but it only bothered me when it got in my mouth.
Swim
  • 31m 2s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Gotta get some goggles I can see out of. Last month I breast stroked 500 yards in 15 minutes, so this race of 1500 in 31 is a scorcher!
Transition 1
  • 03m 6s
Comments:

Got to the timing mat and I didn't beep. My chip stuck to my wetsuit! So I ditched my bike and RAN back to find it.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my chip was on me before I leave my spot!
Bike
  • 1h 24m 44s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Tried to use as much down hill as I could. Glad my tire went flat at the end instead of somewhere else.
What would you do differently?:

Check my chip before I left for the transition gate! More hills in prep for The Bluff!
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Didn't feel my feet or legs for a little while.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more on the bike.
Run
  • 50m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Couldn't Believe I was running that fast out of transition! Just kept moving up on the next person in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

More intervals, and 400/800 repeats.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat and waited for my name to be called for the prizes. Didn't win. Didn't feel I wanted a 10 inch tatoo of the Trinona T on me just to win a set of HED wheels. Went to Subway and drove 4 hours back home. Re-hydrated for 4 hours in the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm old and I get tired easy.

Event comments:

Volunteers were great all along the course. Traffic was slowed by local police, so the bike course was a nice ride. Winona has about 26,000+ as a population, so it was just a great town to have this event in. And the trophies! WAAAAAAY COOL! Solid Limestone. Hope they are giving them out next year, Because I want one!

Overall: 144/245
Performance: Good

Course: Mostly flat. Bouys were big and kind of easy to see. Only had to swim around two, then back to the shore. Waves were small enough and spaced out enough so that people weren't crawling all over you. Weeds ended up being Delicious!

Course: 1.2 miles up the Bluff! UGH! Hills like that separate the men, from the women who know how to ride hills! It was an average of 9.5% grade and on of the top 100 hills in the nation. Just when you got to the 1 mile mark, it turned and got steeper for about 0.2 miles! I pedaled the whole way, and only stood up a couple of times! Still got passed! other end of the bluff coming down didn't seem as long. Went about 40 and didn't touch my brake. Got to the dismount before transition and my Tire went "Pfsssssssst". Perfect!
