Swim
Comments: I actually felt like this was a pretty good swim so was disappointed to see overall rank as 104/139. I'd expected to be back of pack but closer to middle. Didn't have to modify my kick as much as I'd thought to avoid hip pain, but I also wasn't able to run into transition once out of the water so I know I lost some time there. This time is a full minute slower than Lakeside last fall. What would you do differently?: Need to bite the bullet and find some coaching to improve my swim efficiency. My endurance is OK but my technique is definitely lacking. Transition 1
Comments: T1 + T2 rolled into bike time on this course. Bike
Comments: Good bike course, though windy. I like the out-and-back so I can see the field and stack up how I am doing. I was one of the last out of T1 and I liked being able to gauge how far off I was. This bike time has T1 and T2 in it and I was pretty much sauntering through those (esp. T2 since I was officially done with the race at that point!) - I wish I had a better read of the bike alone. I had my computer on me but (1) neglected to turn it on before the race started, so it spent some time finding satellites and (2) I also neglected to reset the timer on it, so that messed me up further. What would you do differently?: Set up computer properly prior to race. Transition 2
Comments: This is where the race ended for me. Under doctor's orders not to run, so didn't run through T1 or T2 and didn't complete the run on the course. Took my time coming into T2 then walked across the timing mat onto the run course, then stepped off and found my way through the crowd to Chad. Run
Post race
Warm down: Watched the other participants on the run course. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pinched nerves. Hoping they heal soon. No effect on bike at all; slight effect on swim; major limiter on T1 and T2 and of course - no run leg to race! I think I did well with what I could control this time around. Once I am not on any more restrictions though, I'd like to get some run speedwork in and schedule a few coached swim sessions to get some pointers. Event comments: My first DNF. :) Very glad I showed up and did the legs I did though. It's a great venue and a great course and I will definitely come back next year. Mostly I'm glad to have had the opportunity for a lifeguarded OWS - those don't come around too often for me outside of races. Last updated: 2011-01-24 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5 and was on the road by 5:30 after bagel w/ PB and banana. Got to race site at 6:30. Breezed through check in and then lots of time to kill.
Took a brief warmup swim in the harbour. Rinsed goggles several times and prayed they wouldn't fog up. (They didn't!) Was glad to have Steve there to shoot the breeze with as the race was late starting and it helped keep any jitters away.
