Swim
Comments: Jumped in pool Olympic-style (man I hadn't done that since high school! Felt like I was an elite swimmer!) and started flying. At 25 yr I realized I was going way too fast. Slowed down. The "swimming under lane lines" was new to me, and my swim shorts were a drag. Saw DZ lining up by the poolside and used him as "sighting". Saw him talking and found out he was yelling and cherring for me. :) What would you do differently?: Wear regular swimsuit or trisuit for a race. Those 2 pieces are useful for the bike and run but the shorts created a drag. Maybe next time I should try spandex ;) Took me some time to run from poolside to the timing mat. So I guess my swim time is close to my average training speed. Transition 1
Comments: The scattered 20s dive start makes T1 so much easier. Didn't have to fight for space. Trying to put on my tank top while running out of the club house was difficult. Got to bike rack, put on bike shorts, socks, bike shoes while Nikki took pictures of me. Borrowed Nikki's sweat coz I was freezing. Almost got DQ here: nikki was holding my bike when I put on her sweat shirt. She told the volunteer that we are a team, and she wasn't really pushing my bike so we were ok. What would you do differently?: More practice. This race is a good T1 practice itself. Bike
Comments: Another near-DQ incident. When they said 3 loops, I thought they mean 3 loops out and back. Followed those who had aldreay down the 3 loops and were heading back. Realized numbers on bike computer didn't match, so I asked a volunteer. Turned out I missed the turn by almost 0.5 mile. Turned back. Wasted a total of 1 mile, close to 5 min. What would you do differently?: Pay attention to signs and volunteers. Transition 2
Comments: Got into TA, pulled my chip and handed to Nikki. Glad I was done :) Run
Comments: See Nikki's RR Post race
Warm down: Changed to dried clothes, ate 1/2 bagel an orange and a yogurt smoothie. waited for Nikki to come in. BTers all cheering for her when she crossed the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not really ready for a bike race. Originally I was the runner of the team. Original biker was injured 2 weeks before the race. We recruited Nikki to be our runner and I decided to swith to biking. 2 days before race, swimmer told me that she was sick. I took up the swim leg as well. Event comments: I view this race as my trnasition practice :) Nice to hang around with different groups of people. The best thing happened was I BEAT BIGBOSS IN THE SWIM!!!! Swimmer told me yesterday that she wa still sick and won't make it to the race. So I took over the swim leg as well.
Woke up, ate a bagel with peanut butter, drove to race site, pick up BIB and stuffs and talked to lots of people. Hunt down those wearing TriFury uniforms. Introduced myself and forgot most of their names. Squeezed myself into the crowd for photo opportunities.
After setting up T1, saw mlaugustine and DZ getting their bikes ready. Found Nikki and her son. Took pictures.
Found people from work: BigBoss, spin instructor and team Triumphant Girls (the other team from work, with yound and fit people). Team Triumphant Girls also had a drop out and the run leg was replaced by a GUY.
Run around, hung out with people inside the club house, which is warm. I was # 163 and the swim start was 1 racer jump in every 20s. I was almost an hour after official start until I get in the pool, and I was really busy during the waiting period: took pictures of the swim start, looked for a water fountain to drink, asked if I could borrow a shirt for the bike coz it was windy and I would feel cold when I get out of the indoor pool all wet. BigBoss told me to grab his spare shirt from the TA. Also talked with lots of people (from work, BT and Trifury).
Oh... the surprise of the day was seeing isis45. She looked great, although the cast still in her arm. Left isis when I saw # 100 got in. Found out Jason Hoyt was 2 persons behind. Talked with him. Cheered for BigBoss and Spin guy when they got in the water. Saw BigBoss panicking and grasping for breath after 100 yd. He held onto the pool side to breathe, and by 200 yd, he was walking in the pool when he can touch the botoom. I was yelling "BigBoss you can do it!!" on top of my lung, but he didn't hear me.
