Pre-race routine:

Drove down the night before because I live 3 1/2 hours away. Checked out the course.
PB and honey bagel in the am. Stopped at Burly's coffee (thanks Patti) for some pre-race coffee and got some coffee cake for after the race.
Event warmup:

It was cold and raining. I racked my bike and then went and sat in car to keep warm. Went back down - I was really cold waiting - couldn't stop shaking. Porta-potty visit. Jogged a little. Wanted to start the race so I could get warm.
Run
  • 18m 20s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I was happy to be running and the rain had stopped. I was warm enough in bike shorts and thin long-sleeved top.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Because of rain, I left everything in bag inside a garbage bag, so I had to dig for stuff. But I'm always slow in transitions anyway.
Bike
  • 1h 04m 47s
  • 14 miles
  • 12.97 mile/hr
Comments:

I knew it was windy but it didn't seem like there was that much of a tailwind on the way out so I wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it was on the way back. I had a really hard time staying on the road on the way back. I was pretty miserable and just wanted to get back in one piece.
What would you do differently?:

I need to fall off my bike more often so I'm not so afraid of it happening. Also, only ridden outside 4 times.
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Usual bad transition
Run
  • 30m 19s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran out of steam last mile - walked some. Last part of run was very pretty.
What would you do differently?:

Not give up at the end
Post race
Warm down:

Stayed for awards - ate my coffee cake from Burly's. Met Steve and Patti. Chatted with some other random racers. One guy who was doing the relay had his biker bail at the last minute and recruited another friend who got out his mountain bike that he hadn't ridden in 5 years, pumped up the tires, went to Wal-Mart and bought a helmet and relayed with his friend. I thought that was pretty cool. Drove home and went out for steak with my husband.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mental on the bike plus not enough outside rides.

Event comments:

This would be a really nice race if the weather had been better
