Swim
Comments: I went in knowing the swim was my weak link, but I struggled mightily throughout. I could not get in a groove, struggled to breath, felt like I was getting nowhere. After rounding the boat, I felt a bit better and for a while found a groove but about halfway back to shore it fell apart again. Floated and rested then tried again. Finished up walking/wading as soon as I could touch bottom. I have much work to do to improve my swimming. What would you do differently?: swim better! Transition 1
Comments: All in all I felt good about the transition. I was a little slow but caught my breath and tried to get my head straight after my lousy swim What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike is my strong suit and it showed. Started on the small ring as there are 3 hills to start off the bike through town. After settling in I concentrated on keeping my speed up but had in the back of my mind to save some for the run. Out and back course on county roads...mostly flat with a few rollers. Was comfortable on the bike....passed quite a few but on the way back the fast ladies who started behind me passed me regularly. Allin all felt good, but could have biked a bit faster. What would you do differently?: Up the pace a bit instead of trying so much to hold back and save my legs. Transition 2
Comments: Again...transition was no problem. I worried quite a bit about doing the transitions wll but they turned out to be no problem What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Did ok....I was really dragging towards the end, I'm thinking from all the energy expended on the swim, and my time shows it. DEveloped some right knee pain about 2/3 through the run and slowed even more to try to allieviate that. Was somewhat disappointed because I know I can perform better than this but the gas tank was getting empty. What would you do differently?: Run faster! Post race
Warm down: walked off the run.....had some fruit and gatorade What limited your ability to perform faster: I think it was a combination of my current level of fitness.....which is miles from where I was less than a year ago but still some distance from where I want to be....and the huge amount of energy I expended in my poor swim. Event comments: This was a great race for a first timer....plenty of helpful volunteers, everything well marked....I good venue. Last updated: 2011-01-29 12:00 AM

Race was 2 hours away plus a 1 hour time change so I was up getting ready at 2:45am to leave at 3:30am. Had a bagel and peanut butter and made coffee for the drive. Was on the road at 3:35. Got to venue about 5:45, which was 6:45 local time. Breezed through check in and marking and found my spot in transition and got set up. This race was very well organized and as a first timer I never had to wonder what or where....great staff.
Did a little jogging and stretching....probably should have gotten in the water.
