Swim
Comments: Had a very good swim - no significant contact, sighted well, kept my line. I had a clear path on the inside for most of the course. What would you do differently?: Nothing - pleased with my swim. Transition 1
Comments: The run from the lake to Transition was a pain as usual - about a quarter mile up a hill. Felt bad for any first timers who didnt know to bring sneakers to run up the gravel road. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Faster than last year by about a minute. Bike
Comments: First half was fast - lots of downhills. Then the climbs started - I did well on these and didnt get passed much until the last few miles. Had a gel at beginning (recover from swim) and end (get ready for run) and drank mostly Gatorade in between (some water). Beat last year's bike by about 5 minutes. What would you do differently?: Still not placing as high in bike segment as I think I could/should - need more mileage during the summer. Overall it was a good bike segment for me. Transition 2
Comments: Took 30 seconds off last year's T2 - moved through it well with no issues. What would you do differently?: Put on race belt while running out - I dont know why I stood there putting this thing on - I always do it while running! Brain freeze I guess. The few seconds I took to do this may have cost me my 2:30 goal! Run
Comments: Not my best run - couldnt get going at the start and was fading in the middle. Recovered slightly in last 1-2 miles. Once again, sweated into my shoes to the point of heavy squishiness. Gotta figure out a way to deal with this - the extra weight of the sweat in my shoes is definitely a hinderence. What would you do differently?: Not sure, but didnt expect to struggle on the run as much - haven't trained as much in August due to vacations (excuse!). The heat is definitely a factor for me. Post race
Warm down: Bottle of water, then couple of beers!! Hung out with Dave and took in the sights. It was nice to actually have someone to talk to after a race! Wanted to go down to the lake for a swim, but didnt want to have to come back up the hill for a 3rd time. What limited your ability to perform faster: Did not keep the intensity of my training up during second half of July and first half of August. I am very happy with my time and placement, but I think I could improve more if I stayed on my training plan more rigorously through the summer. Event comments: Could have used more water on the run, but overall, this is a well run race. Nice finisher medal (didnt have these in past 2 years), and very happy to place in my age group - got a hat and water bottle! I like the fact that they recognize top 3 and the age groups are in 5 yr increments. This is my 3rd year and I will keep coming back. I would prefer going back to a lighter (more refreshing) beer, but the fact that they serve beer at all is just great! Last updated: 2011-01-30 12:00 AM

Got up at 4am, made coffee, loaded truck, then picked up Dave C. Got to race about 530 - Transition opened at 6am, so early as usual. Ate a bagel with PB, and drank a G1. Got age-group marking (tattoo was not included in race packet) then set up. Wandered and talked and waited in line for port-a-potties.
Short swim just to get acclimated - lake was perfect as usual. Then stood on beach while race organizers tried to get people out of the water. Amazingly, as they are begging people to come out, others are still going in for a late warm-up. A bit selfish, I'd say.
