What would you do differently?: Wear a wetsuit! Transition 1
Comments: Getting into the bike went well. What would you do differently?: Comparatively, my transitions are going well. I saved some time with the wetsuit but would have earned it back by more than that time saved, had I worn mine. Bike
Comments: My overall bike rank out of 1218 was 72??? Ok. Well, I'm still making improvements. Out of top 15 in the age group, I ranked last. Fastest age grouper was fastest overall. I'd like to see 22 MPH for a flat HIM (May). Lots of first timers still not listening or reading the rules. Of course, I saw many passing on the right (because the slower folks were so far to the left). A few close calls there but no accidents. What would you do differently?: T-I-T-S Transition 2
Comments: The one thing I dislike about racking with the Corporate Challenge athletes is that they all do relays and stand around as I come running into transition with the bike. Their blocking should cause a penalty to their team as I shouldn't have to scream to get them to move. Most see me coming and know they need to get out of the way, but some are not so bright. Shoot, even some getting off the bike were walking their bike in also causing blocking. Its a race! :) What would you do differently?: Like T1, my transitions are solid. I'm fine with them. Run
Comments: I heard a lot of people complaining about the heat (and dehydration). I made a good decision to bring a water bottle for the first 1/2-1 mile and soak myself and hyrdate. I also took my HammerGel for mile 1.5 and was sure to deplete the water bottle when finishing my ride. I had trouble breathing because I had a head cold the week of the race and still had quite a cough throughout the event. I don't think my breathing was because of the climate but because I was sick. I took 2 waters at each aide station with one going on my head (visor so the water could go down my back) and the other to drink. What would you do differently?: My run was a little slower than last year but again, I was sick this week. My overall time was faster (due to my bike improvements), and I knew the run was going to challenge me (b/c of being sick). I kept a good pace but dang it, got passed by the same two guys who passed me at MiamiMan in November! More speed work! Post race
Warm down: As always, get the medal, water, and beeline to the massage table! What limited your ability to perform faster: Being sick the week of the race. Event comments: Thank you volunteers! Great job keeping us well-directed on the bike course and the run! 1st in the swim (AG) 8th out of 142 (AG) 28th out of 1218 (Overall) Qualified for Naitonals again. All after being sick. No Complaints. Last updated: 2011-01-30 12:00 AM

With wifey in tow, we spent a good time looking for parking but didn't park too far from the race site. A later arrival than typical, my bike was positioned down towards the end of the rack. Timing was comfortable to get everything situated and consider/reconsider - basically, think the race through.
Once settled, grabbed my stuff and left transition. Grabbed the wife and headed out to the beach for some swimming and stretching. Pre-race mandatory meeting before heading to the start (with some beach running to get the legs warmed up).
