Swim
Comments: What a horrible swim. I started off diving in and my goggles slipped so I had to stop and reset. This happened the day before too - so no biggie, I just moved on. But getting to the first turn, I was really feeling exhausted. It got worse and worse until I finally had to stop - bring my head up - and try to catch my breath. No matter how slow I swam, I couldn't catch my breath. It was like I was panicking. Horrible feeling, horrible swim. Then to learn this swim was faster than the day before... I think they changed the course. What would you do differently?: I'm not really sure what happened - so I can't really say what I would change. Rationally it looks like I should start slower - but I really don't think I started too fast. Transition 1
Comments: I've said this in past race reports - the only thing to speed up my transitions at this point is to lose the socks and gloves, have my shoes clipped in already. Bike
Comments: Well, since I had no data to draw on - I just kind of rode. It felt much better than the day before once I got started. I tried to really push on the way down, and then just keep on trucking on the way back up. It worked, I felt great looking at my time and speed. Transition 2
Comments: Same deal, until I learn to get out of my shoes and run barefoot and not wear silly gloves, this transition will stay at this speed. This was fast for me. :) Run
Comments: Felt great on the run. Not as fast as I'd have liked - but the weekend was starting to catch up with me. I pushed as hard as I could - nice negative split on the last mile. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Little standing stretches while waiting for Mike to cross the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: I probably could have pushed harder on the first part of the run. Event comments: Felt much better about this race than about the international on Saturday. I was psyched, because I really expected to do horribly based on how I felt before the race. And I started off so bad in the swim, I feel like I was lucky to get the results that I did. And almost a 4 minute improvement over last year - great news. 2010 results were: Swim - 8:37 T1 - 2:24 Bike - 52:43 T2 - 1:26 Run - 26:21 Improved everywhere except for T1 - happy with that. Oatmeal/milk breakfast. Walked over to transition. Limited warmup - very scattered because Mike and I were both racing and we had the kids. So I did a little bit on the bike and basically no running other than jogging to make sure the kids found their sitter. Bike felt horrible on warmup - I was really worried about my ability to perform. Legs were tired and I couldn't generate any power at all.
