Swim
Comments: Swim was really fun. The water temp was awesome... 15 degrees warmer than the air temperature at the start of the race. By far the warmest swim I've had in a triathlon. The swim went well... the sun was in our eyes while spotting for buoys but I was able to site OK. I had a great portion of drafting while on the last part of the first loop. Really made a difference. I focused on having fun, as the swim is my favorite portion of the triathlon. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. A little more warm up would have been nice, but I'm not sure it would have made a difference. Transition 1
Comments: Super long run from the lake to the transition and even a longer run to the bike mount. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Bike was really fast and fun. The road was almost completely flat and pretty much no traffic. Super smooth pavement expect for one section at the halfway point of each loop. Worked hard to keep a hard cadence. Had a head wind on one side of the loop and then a tail wind for the second half of the loop. But on the last portion, the wind switched hard and rode into a really tough head wind. What would you do differently?: Nothing really other than train more. Transition 2
Comments: LONG run into the transition on very rough dirt/grass. What would you do differently?: My stupid shoes kept spinning and hitting the ground as ran with my bike. Not sure what I can do differently to keep the the shoes from spinning. Run
Comments: I felt great on the first loop, averaging under 10 min/miles, but the second loop killed me. My lower back and my legs were hurting so bad. My lungs and breathing felt fine, but all my energy was gone. Worked hard on the second loop just to survive and keep one foot moving in front of the other. What would you do differently?: Work on running long distances even more. The last few weeks with the knee injury and friends/family in town meant less than ideal training. Not sure it would have made a difference though... Post race
Warm down: Walked around and hugged my family and kiddos! What limited your ability to perform faster: Being able to finish strong on a long run. Event comments: No clock at the end of the race, which was super annoying. But other than that a great race. Last updated: 2011-02-02 12:00 AM

Ate a breakfast of eggs, hash browns, veggie sausage on a tortilla with cheese. Also had a blended coffee from Dutch Bros.
Setup transition and hurried to the pre-race briefing. I was a little behind schedule, but was able to get about a 6 min warm up swimming in the water.
