Pre-race routine:

Ate bread with egg and egg wht, coffee. Left on the early bus, got there plenty early, had half a banana, forgot the prerace gel and that bummed me out. Once we were all corraled I got very emotional, teary, strange but once I got in the water I settled down.

What would you do differently?:

maybe get in the front more but I'm so afraid of getting swam over or legs pulled but there was a bit of time b/f the 1st bouy where I felt I was being held back by all the limbs in front of me. Also I would practice getting the wetsuit off to my waist at least. Need shoes to be more open too.
Transition 1
  • 04m 51s
Comments:

totally have to practice getting new wetsuit to waist. Need to get shoes on faster, need to have velcro open not just buckle...really I think I need tri shoes instead of road shoes but these will have to do.

I think nutrition was right on, had some bar, don't think I ate the whole thing though. Think I had about 3 gels, piece of banana. Was really afraid of digestion issues but really lucked out. Had 2 pepto's a few miles b/f the end to keep the good tummy going.
What would you do differently?:

practice more so I can get stronger for next year!
Transition 2

Run

Comments:

Felt good from the get go but was going too fast in the 8's. I knew that would happen, after a couple miles the legs naturally settled in and not where I wanted them but what can you do. I had to really work to get the time I got, it was hard, I definately need more run fitness. (ok a little honesty, totally peed on the run about 4-5x, I know that's gross but I just wasn't willing to give up time being a lady, hopefully no one noticed, I just kept sloshing water all over me at aid stations)
What would you do differently?:

Freakin' have my brain work and realize I did the 2nd freakin loop!!! I had a good sprint going at the end but when I saw the sign that said 2nd loop my brain was fried and I thought I didn't do the loop so I put on the brakes and basically jogged thru the finish not really knowing if I completed the race, ughhh! I could have shaved off some precious seconds if it wasn't for that, oh well, live and learn.
Post race
Warm down:

walk around, stretched a little but mostly was just so excited to be done.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my fitness and my brain :)

Event comments:

This was one of the most awesome experiences of my life! I had some much freakin' fun! It felt so great to have it all come together, all that training seemed to really work. I never would have thought I could do so well, in fact that's why I got messed up on the 2nd loop thing, b/c I could see the clock had a 5hr on it and my mind had 6 or even 7hr and how could the clock say 5hr? The race was so well supported, I doubt any other race will compare to it, can't wait for next year, yahooooo!

It was crazy chaotic up until the 1st bouy, feet in front, arms everywhere, it was all I could do to actually swim and make headway. I was really able to go for it once I passed the 1st bouy b/c it opened up. When my feet hit the ground it was like stepping on a bunch of needles, ouch but after a few feet it went away. Had trouble getting wetsuit off, thank-God for the strippers.
