Swim
Comments: Decent swim, but I think I could have pushed a little harder and dropped 20 seconds off the swim. Felt decent, but maybe a little too relaxed. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder and reach a little harder. Transition 1
Comments: Ranked 47th in T1. Most likely made up a lot of time running from pool to racks b/c I was moving a LOT faster than everyone else. Once I got to the bike, I did quite poorly. Put one sock on upside down and had to remove and fix it. Put one knee warmer on upside down and had to fix that. Total, toweled off quickly, put on tri jersey, socks, knee warmers, spandex, wind jacket, sunglasses, skull cap, and helmet. After crossing the mount line, did a flying mount, which was successful, but knocked right shoe off pedal when trying to plant feet and begin pedaling. Had to stop, go back and pick up shoe, slip right shoe on and then step on left shoe, once I got on that time, I was good to go. Got up to speed decently and then put gloves on while riding. What would you do differently?: Need to tighten up tension in pedals and maybe use slightly stronger rubber bands to hold shoes. Also, need to focus just a little more while putting on socks and knee warmers so I don't have to pull them off and repeat. Bike
Comments: Decent bike, once I got on and got moving. Cold headwind on the way out with wet tri shorts on led to excruciating pain on my parts. Felt as though I could have puked a few times and almost stopped. I kept pushing hoping I would warmup once I got the tailwind. Once I got to the turn, the tail-wind DID help. Still need to get a lot more miles in on the bike, but felt pretty good for only having a few outdoor rides with mostly trainer rides. I could tell that I wasn't in as good of shape based on my climb of the mother hill. What would you do differently?: Honestly, I don't know that I could have done much different other than just keep pushing, knowing that the pain would subside. Transition 2
Comments: Dismount went flawlessly. Didn't cramp in calves. Speed laces were AWESOME and helped me make up a LOT of time in T2. Stripped jacket quickly and put race belt on while running out of transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I was quite happy with T2. Run
Comments: Pretty decent run. Calves were borderline cramping for first 1/4 mile, so I had to keep my toes pulled up. Also took right at a mile to get feeling back in my toes, but felt great, body wise, after that. Lacked a LITTLE push on the hills, so need to hit the hills for training. Finished nice and strong and would love to be under 20 minutes for the 5K sometime this year. Came so close this time. What would you do differently?: Not much other than stay mentally focused a little better, and try to stride out more. Especially on the downhills. Post race
Warm down: Didn't do much :-( What limited your ability to perform faster: VERY cold in a few parts on the bike, which was causing unbearable pain. Also, wasn't 100% focused during race. Event comments: I felt that for the most part, the race was run very well and didn't have too many complaints. Last updated: 2011-02-04 12:00 AM

Fairly light breakfast: English muffin, apple, banana, and half an energy bar. Drank water on the way to the race. A sip every few minutes to try and keep hydrated. Registered, got body marked and started to setup transition area. Tried to figure out how many extra layers I would need for the bike and run since the weather was so cool, but didn't want anything extra in T1 that I didn't need.
Took the bike for a mile or 2 warmup, then double-checked transition setup and stripped down and went in to warmup in pool. Swam 100 meters then stretched out arms. Swam another 2x100 warmup with short break between each 100. Got out of the water, stretched a little bit of lower body and shoulders, then tried to stay loose until start.
