Swim
Comments: Had a terrible time sighting due to swimming into the sun, and then foggy goggles. The time trial start helped because I could just aim center mass of the gaggle of people ahead of me. I think I have an alignment problem. I kept pulling to the left. All in all, my pace felt great though. Not too much, but strong enough. What would you do differently?: Anti-fog? Transition 1
Comments: Felt OK. Wasn't pushing it too much, but felt like it was a decent transition. Took the time to grab a drink of Heed from my spare bottle. What would you do differently?: Maybe more practice removing wetsuit, but it came off pretty easy. Bike
Comments: I felt really strong on the bike. Felt like my pace was hard, but not too hard (turns out it may have been too hard, more on that later.) What would you do differently?: Drink more, eat more Transition 2
Comments: Didn't feel like a bad transition, but was a bit slow. Took the time to grab an extra GU for the run and take another drink. I put my race belt on as I ran, which was good. What would you do differently?: Next time I think I will put on the race belt and the Garmin as I run. Run
Comments: This is where the wheels fell off. I felt great intially until about mile 4. Then I started to have some stomach issues. The stomach issues kept me drinking water and not Heed b/c the Heed seemed to make it worse. I had to walk a bit. I think I walked 4 times total including up most of the hill at mile 11. Once at the top of the hill, I started to get some cramping in my quads. I kept an eye on my watch and knew I had to beat 2 hours for sure to beat 5 hours total time (my mind was not accounting for transitions at this point). I was way off my goal time of close to 1:30. Maybe that wasn't a realistic goal, or maybe I pushed too hard on the bike? What would you do differently?: Drink more on the bike. Continue to take in Heed and just deal with the stomach Post race
Warm down: Stood under the sprinkler for a minute. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not taking in enough food and drink on the bike. Which lead me to the med tent, 2.5 bags of fluid and a trip to the ER with an abnormal heart beat. Fluids eventually took care of the abnormal heart beat Event comments: Everyone told me the run course is very exposed and they were right. Tons to drink stations though, lots of volunteers all very friendly and helpful. Last updated: 2011-02-08 12:00 AM

Got to the site just after transition opened. Got everything set up and got in the long line for the porta potty.
Did a little swimming. Only my 2nd time using my wetsuit, so wanted to get the feel for it again.
