Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 5:45 a.m. and had some cereal and Gatorade. Took the subway to race.
Event warmup:

Biked 1/2 mile to race start and did some stretching.
Run
  • 13m 42s
  • 2.1 miles
  • 06m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I held back on the run, but felt good most of the way. I definitely could have pushed it some more but wanted to save my legs for the uphill on the bike start.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

I broken the cardinal of racing and tried new equipment on race day. I bought yesterday a new pair of running flats that I had to use in the race. The only problem was that my other pair of running shoes had speed laces and these did not. As I was unlacing the shoes one of my laces pulled into a knot. My option was to leave it and deal it at T2 or take the knot out now. Taking the knot out now required me to pull off my running gloves and work the laces. This burned a good 30 seconds on this transition.

Also, I have to teach myself how to get into bike shoes on the bike. However, slipping on the shoes did not take too long.
What would you do differently?:

Have speed laces on my running flats.
Bike
  • 31m 29s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.06 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt strong the entire bike race, but slowed in the last 1/2 mile too much. I started spinning too early before T2.
What would you do differently?:

Pedal strong the entire time, working on getting more aero (purchase aero bars). Guys on tri bikes were blowing by me on the flats but I was catching them on the hil.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Took too much time to lace the running shoes.
Run
  • 13m 5s
  • 2.1 miles
  • 06m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not feel too tight off the bike and passed about 6 people on the first hill. Was only passed by one runner and he became the person I paced off the entire time. I had no chance of catching him. I was able to chase down the 4th place women's finisher who passed me on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some bagels and Muscle Milk and waited for the wife to finish race. She beat her expected time by about 4 minutes and everyone was happy.

Event comments:

Another well organized race by NYTC. I think I really like Prospect Park.
