Run
Comments: Run 1 went about as well as I could have hoped. This is my first full year of running (ever), so I don't expect to set the road on fire with my speed. I've grown used to my "back of the pack" placings. Still, I was happy with what I posted for the 2 miles. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Bike is my favorite leg. My previously frozen water bottles had long since thawed, but they were wet and I was wetter. It was a hot, sticky, drippy ride and the damp air offered no drying for all the moving I did. My bike was a disgusting mess by the end of it. Roads were wet and I probably spent as much time looking for a dry line as anything*. The second 13-mile lap was noticeably quieter as the faster folks began their run. I was just under my estimated time, so that was good. Transition 2
Comments: Glug, glug. Quick last-second drain on the water bottle. Helmet off. Hat on. Bike shoes off. Running shoes on, and away I go. Place: 109. Run
Comments: Run 2 kicked my butt. Don't know what else to say...other than I probably walked more of that 4-mile route than I should have. Everyone around me spent the uphill portions walking. I chatted with many of the folks around me...I think we bonded through a mutually shared adversity! With a run 2 placement of 290, in spite of everything, I improved my placement with my second run, or rather, others suffered worse on the second run than I. Post race
Warm down: Muscle Milk, walking, hanging What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat and humidity. They were oppressive. Event comments: Photos courtesy of HillSlugger Last updated: 2011-02-09 12:00 AM
