Run
Comments: Felt great for the run. Not as fast as I was in Indy early this year, but I expected that. I'm 10-15 lbs heavier right now, and haven't been training the run like I was back then. Had a gel every 3-4 miles when running, and took 1 salt tab around mile 7 and another around mile 11. Abdominal muscles started to cramp right about 1/2 mile to go, but CK pushed me to keep going after taking a couple short walk breaks and I finished strong. What would you do differently?: More focused run training leading up the race would have made a huge difference I'm sure. My real goal was to gauge my fitness leading up to the Poconos 70.3 on October 2, and try to find a pace I thought I could hold in that race. I'm very happy with how things went. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate some LaRosa's Pizza and drank some beer and then made the long slow walk back to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. I'm sure I could have pushed harder through the race, but again, goal was 2:00 in preparation for Poconos 70.3, and I hit that goal, so I'm happy. Event comments: A great race put on by the United States Air Force. One of my favorite races, and I plan on repeating one of the events here every year I can. Last updated: 2011-02-13 12:00 AM

Usual pre-race breakfast at home, a little bit of fluid. Dressed warm. Got to the race and walked the good 2-3 miles to the start line. Had a balance bar and banana about 60-30 minutes prior to start, took off my warm clothes, and got ready.
Light jogging in the grass next to the start area. Stretched my calves and hamstrings a little bit too.
