Swim
Comments: For my first ever open water swim I will certainly take it, but I would definitely prefer to never have to swim in a wetsuit ever again. I don't know if I overexerted in the first 100 from the excitement or the wetsuit limited my breathing that much. I had to hang on a kayak in the first 100 but after I got my breathing under control I was better able to manage it from that point. Had to flip onto my back a couple of times to recover, but I finally made it to the swim finish. What would you do differently?: Stay in the pool... Seriously more open water practice with the wetsuit on. I just couldn't breathe right, it felt like the wetsuit was pulling down on my shoulders and up on my crotch, so I couldn't get my normal breath, plus getting jostled at the start threw me off my rhythm and I was just out of sorts at the start. Oh well. Transition 1
Comments: I was so gassed after the swim and running down the pier, I had to recover for a minute, so I took a break and walked between the timing mat and entrance to transition, even at that and having to remove the wetsuit and get everything else one. Not a bad time in t1. I'll take it. What would you do differently?: Not a whole lot. Move t1 closer to the water, have a better swim so I wasn't so pissed coming out of the water. Bike
Comments: I may have gone out a touch too fast on the first lap, but I had to find a groove after blowing up in the swim. I knew the best place to make up a little time before blowing on the run was on the bike. My strongest of the three. I was hoping pre-race to avg between 16-18 for the bike leg and hit it dead on. What would you do differently?: Nothing, pace was right on, was never even breathing hard. Transition 2
Comments: Great transition, even with the eventual winner of my AG. Just need to be quicker in the other facets of the game. Run
Comments: I hate to run, but when I got to the 1 mile mark in 9 minutes, I knew I was in trouble. I came out of t2 too hard and I would pay the price. All in all, considering I ran a triathlon pr in the run, I'll definitely take it, but I finished and that is what counts. What would you do differently?: More run training. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, another visit to plastic potty land, hugs from the hubby and daughter, pictures by and in the lake. What limited your ability to perform faster: My breathing and the gas fumes sitting on top of the lake. YUCK!!! Event comments: Great race, if it weren't for the open water swim, it would be on my list to do again. But I can say that I've done it. I'd have to think long and hard about doing it again. Pre-race routine. Breakfast in my tent, pump up my tires, transition bag on my back and ride the 1.5 miles over to the start. Nice gentle warmup before the race. Set up transition, couple visits to plastic potty land and then into the water about 20 minutes before my wave start tot warm up.
Same as above bike and swimming to warm up before the swim wave start!!
