Swim
Comments: The swim felt great, didnt have to stop at all, felt very confident throughout the whole thing. the only problem is i got too comfortable and just went at an easy pace when i should have pushed myself harder. no big deal, glad i finished it and had lots of energy to run up the hill with ease. also i kept getting my direction off, but it was def better than my direction in the greenbay tri. What would you do differently?: pushed harder and went faster. i really need to work on my direction as well. other than that i was the least disappointed with my swim out of all three. Transition 1
Comments: definitely getting better at transition, but still a little slow. just need to practice that a little more so i can be smooth and speedy instead of sloppy and panicked. What would you do differently?: just need to make it smoother. but im def improving. Bike
Comments: Was confident, calm, quick and smooth the first 15 miles. on mile 18 i got a cramp in my hamstring. NEVER HAS HAPPENED BEFORE AUGH! painful and annoying the rest of the bike. i was tight because of my hamstring and the rest of my body started feeling the affects of it. lower back started hurt after mile 35 so i stood up on bike and did some stretches. really pushed hard with my bum leg and probably overworked myself. puked on my right leg at mile 50. was really good about hydrating and doing hammer gel but somehow got sick. sooo happy to see T2 What would you do differently?: i really need to raise my seat. im kicking myself big time for not doing that. that is a huge factor in my legs tiring and cramping. also i need to train more with the bike. dissappointed the most with the bike :( Transition 2
Comments: it was a better transition, still needs improvement. What would you do differently?: nothing. after such a crappy bike and puking on myself im actually surprised i did as well as i did. Run
Comments: felt confident going into the run until i saw that i had to run up mount everest. not happy. but once at the top i took a second and stopped and really took in that first glass of water. first 2 miles were hard and i was still a little queesy from puking earlier. after the 2 miles i was in the zone and going at a comfortable smooth pace. got to mile 9 and I started to hit a wall and tripped over a tree root. snapped me out of my zone and got hard for the last 4.1 miles. got to mile 10 and met up with another girl from omaha we both were needing to walk at that point. great to talk with her, she really pushed me the last couple miles. so thankful she was there for me. walked half then would run half. walked most of mile 11 because i was starting to see stars. got to 12 and picked up the pace. reached the big hill and flew down it...to realize the finish wasnt there like last year! really mad but pushed through that last 1/8 mile yay!! What would you do differently?: take in gatorade!! i was so icky from the puke that all i took in was water during the run. should have forced down either gel or gatorade. would have helped on those last couple miles. but oh well. i know my run was awesome up until the end and walking 2 miles was the only reason my time wasnt so great but i really needed to walk that or i would have passed out and ruined the whole race. Post race
Warm down: beer, breadsticks and ice pool!! did a little stretching as well... What limited your ability to perform faster: ehhh. my husband was right i needed to train more with the gatorade and gel. also i really need to get my butt out on the bike more. maybe some more bricks. Event comments: It was my first half ironman and i had only done a triathlon (sprint) once 2 weeks before. i did my first half marathon 9 months ago and after that decided to be nuts and do the half ironman. started training this winter and was very motivated even tho i was crazy. Im going to take away all the criticism i just gave myself because i finished with a great time for my first time!! im proud of myself and so happy i impressed everyone. im also so amazed at how i got this all together in such a short amount of time. this has been an awesome experience and im so excited this is just the start to my triathlon career :) Last updated: 2011-02-18 12:00 AM
