Run
Comments: The run was great!!!! I don't know if it was the adrenaline from the race or the 7000 feet less of elevation. Either way, I felt like I was floating along. I kept looking at my HRM and it would say something like 160 bpm - normally this would put me in a spot of bother, but I felt great and just went with it. Had to stop at mile 2 for a potty break (which I didn't include in my time), but otherwise was good. About mile 9 mile feet started to hurt where the flipflops created blisters the day before. I slowy increased my pace after the halfway mark and I think I negative split the run. From mile 12 on I pushed as hard as I could and came in strong. What would you do differently?: Not wear flip flops for a 4 mile hike the day before. Otherwise nothing! Post race
Warm down: Waited in the cattle chute to get water and gatoraid. Sat in the shade and waited for Laura to finish. Back to the hotel to shower and wait for our friends from LA to arrive. Spent the rest of the weekend by the pool or at the beach. What limited your ability to perform faster: Still a new runner, stil have lots of gains to be made. Event comments: Race was well organized. Plenty of volunteers and water stations. Swag bag was a little dissapointing and it would of been nice to have some post race food. The results page is down so can't access my rank - will edit later. Last updated: 2011-02-18 12:00 AM

Flew into John Wayne Airport the day before (Saturday) the race, took a shuttle to the hotel and met up with my sister-in-law Laura. After conferring with the concierge (who assured us the registration/check-in was within walking distance)set out in flip-flops to pick up our packets. Made a huge mistake wearing the flip-flops as the convention center was about 2 miles away. Got our bib numbers and swag bag (which was lame) and then wandered around the health expo. Walked back to the hotel and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging by the pool. Went to bed around 10 pm and woke up around 4:30 am.
No warm up as we spent a very long time in line at the hotel waiting for the shuttles. The hotel was not prepared for the number of people. Made it to the line about 10 minutes before it started (which actually was perfect).
