Run
Comments: Good effort for our level of training. Had to make a potty stop around mile 2 and lost about 4 minutes. Only trained up to a couple of 10 milers, and as expected, miles 10-13.1 were tough. Felt like I gave it my all though, so no regrets. Half marathon PR for me and my friend...only by about 30 seconds, but considering we're a few years older, it's all good. Felt like I had my own personal miracle with my blood sugar gradually coming down throughout the race, so giving the glory to God for such a wonderful day! What would you do differently?: I'd like to see what we could do if we started training a bit earlier, and got our long runs up to 13 or more. We can't seem to crack the code of not having to make an early potty stop, but that would be nice. Other than that, it was a very good day, and I'm happy with it. Post race
Warm down: Walking all over hunting for the right place to pick up our finishers shirts. What limited your ability to perform faster: Only trained up to 10 miles. A few too many middle age pounds. Event comments: Like the new location and course, although that hill in mile 10 is a bit sadistic. Great volunteers, well organized, loved the upgraded shirts this year. Parking was close and easy in/out. The finshers medal series has had us hooked for 3 years, and we hope to collect the last 2 as well. Last updated: 2011-02-19 12:00 AM

My friend Becky picked me up at 5:15, no traffic other than a few other folks on the road with 13.1 stickers and 26.2 stickers on their cars. Blood sugar dropped to 43 overninght, then rebounded to 289 before the race, definitely not ideal. Enjoyed a pre-race church service at 6:00. Nice to pray and get that God perspective that whatever the day brings will be just fine.
Bolused 0.5 unit and set my insulin pump back to a 100% basal rate (had been at 60%, which is normal for training). Chatted with a gal from our church in our starting corral, and then we were off.
