Swim
Comments: People didn't seed themselves correctly in front of me, so there were people walking in the pool. Being that this was a sprint race I think there were a lot of beginners, which is ok, but they didn't understand that when someone is trying to pass you it is courtesy to let them pass at the end of the lane. I was swimming over top of people trying to pass and not get knocked out by the people swimming at me on the other side of the lane. Very frustrating. I think the race organizers need to find a better way to seed this race, like making everyone actually submit there times and lining them up according to that. People can just line up first come first serve and new people just don't understand that they should be up there unless they are fast swimmers. What would you do differently?: Get toward the front of the line faster so that I didn't have to be behind the walkers. Transition 1
Comments: I was worried that it might be a little chilly on the bike after coming out of the pool, so I had arm warmers set up in transition to put on. I ended up not wanting them when I came out of the pool. Sunglasses and helmet on no problems. Put on my bike shoes (no socks) in transition instead of putting them on the bike, I'm just not that talented yet. Nice and easy onto the bike, no jumping, and off I went. What would you do differently?: Not bother with arm warmers if it's going to be higher than 55F. In a race situation, you're a lot warmer than you think you're going to be. Bike
Comments: My right quad was screamin at me the whole time and I felt like I should have been able to go faster, but couldn't. After looking over my bike after the race I saw that my brake pad on the back was leaning against the tire slightly and I wondered if that was what was slowing me down or if it was just my not-in-the-greatest-bike-shape-ness. What would you do differently?: I checked over the bike and rode it a bit before the start. But next time I will check all bike pads before beginning each race. Transition 2
Comments: No complaints here. I got out of my bike shoes during the last few hundred yds of the bike. Ran barefoot to transition. Helmet off good, socks on good (a little wobbly legged while standing and putting socks on, but I didn't fall), shoes on quickly due to my super cool fast laces. Grabbed my race belt and visor and put those on as I was running out of transition. What would you do differently?: Nada Run
Comments: I haven't done enough brick workouts this year so far, and it was very evident by my very jello-ish legs in the first part. But I just held a steady pace until that went away. Then I tried to push the pace a little. The last long hill at the end will zap all you got left, but I just tried to hold a steady pace. Once I got to the top I smiled (always a camera right there) and pushed as hard as I could to the finish. What would you do differently?: More brick workouts in the few weeks leading up to the race. Post race
Warm down: Post race message! I love this race for their post race messages. Totally free and totally awesome! What limited your ability to perform faster: The people in the pool not seeding themselves correctly. Event comments: This is easily one of the best sprint races in the area. The post race food is awesome. Great atmosphere. Great post race messages. I do think they went a little cheaper this year on the age group award plaques because usually they put a name plate on them that has the age group and date and this year it just says 'first place', but I'm definitely not complaining. I'm just happy to have won one! Just thought I'd make a note of it. They went a little more expensive on the shirts if that makes up for it! Very cool technical tee. I'll definitely use it during training! Last updated: 2011-02-21 12:00 AM

The race was to start at 1pm, but I had to work the midnight shift the night before. So I got off work, went to the race site, slept about 2 hrs in the car, got out and got my race packet and body markings, set up transition, then went back to the car to lay down for another hour. Then I got up and drank a cup of coffee finished setting up transition, and visited with some friends.
I rode around the parking lot on the bike to make sure everything was ok after the travel.
