Swim
Comments: Overall, I had a pretty good swim. I hit my groove about 1/4 of the way out. I started catching a few people in front of me. I now know what it's like to swim onto people. This required me to do a bit more sighting that I had anticipated. I kept pretty close to the buoys to minimize 'extra' yards. On the way back in, I was in a good rhythm, until I realized I hadn't sighted in a long time. Good thing. I had crossed over the center line of the course. I quickly corrected this and got back on course. What would you do differently?: Sight a bit more. Maybe swim in my jammers or pick up some tri shorts. I had noticed my times were faster in the pool with my jammers instead of the swim trunks. Transition 1
Comments: No real issues here. I didn't mark the time out of the water and on to the bike. Since I did the whole race in my swim trunks, I didn't have to worry about getting a wetsuit off. I sat down to put my socks on my wet feet. I learned a while ago to put the socks on before and roll them off before leaving for the swim. This prevents any issues putting on dry socks over wet feet. I then tied my shoes and stook up. I put on the tank top and then helment and sun glasses. I was off. What would you do differently?: I think this was a pretty good transition. Very quick in my eyes. Bike
Comments: Since I had hurt my litte toe the night before, putting my foot into the toe clips hurt pretty bad. I toughed it out. As I had done last year, I kept an eye out for others riding a mountain bike. I did not see anyone ahead of me riding one and no one passed me riding one. What would you do differently?: Get a road/tri bike. This again limited my performance. Transition 2
Comments: I went down the wrong aisle. Oops. Rather than walk back, I lifted the bike over the racks and then went under it to get to the correct aisle. I'm pretty sure that cost me a few seconds. Other than that, the rack went smooth. I took the helmet off and dropped it on my towel and was off. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention to the entry to the transition area from the end of the bike. I walked through T1 and forgot to walk through T2. Run
Comments: Ran the first mile pretty quick. Then the toe started hurting. I slowed down for mile two. I picked up the pace for mile three to try to finish the run under 24 minutes. What would you do differently?: Maybe not hurt my toe. It was giving me a lot of trouble on the run. I couldn't wait to get my shoe off once I crossed the finish line. Post race
Warm down: TAKE OF MY SHOE. What limited your ability to perform faster: MY HURT LITTLE TOE ON MY RIGHT FOOT. Event comments: I enjoy this race a lot. Last updated: 2006-03-21 12:00 AM

Woke around 5:00 AM. Watched Sportscenter while eating 1/2 cup oatmeal sprinkled with chopped walnuts, packet of splenda, and cinnamon. Drank 1 cup of coffee to get the blood flowing.
Steve picked me up just after 6:00 AM. After checking in and setting up transition area, we walked to the beach to scout the run from the beach to the transition area and clean up any debris, branches, etc. Good thing we did this. We found rocks, small branches, and dirt clumps. There was another guy with us as well. He found a small piece of glass. Whew! That would have ruined the day.
After stetching a bit, I decided it was time to run a bit on my broken toe. Oh, did I fail to mention I broke my little toe on my right foot the night before? Let's just say the toe hurt a little bit....for now.
