Swim
Comments: Swim was overall fine - first 1/4 mile seemed to take far too long but got into my groove about 1/3 of the way into it all and felt strong. 100 or so yards about 1km in where I seemed to get swum over by faster swimmers, or disrupted by slower swimmers making for the wall. Final 1/4 mile had solid cramp in right calf and left thigh cramped with about 100 yards to go. Concentrated on body turn and reach to keep rhythm and try forget about legs. Got out of water, both calves cramped and difficulty getting to transition without calves seizing. What would you do differently?: I have to train much more. Just because I can swim a mile, bike 25 miles and run 6 miles doesn't mean I should be pretending I am a triathlete. Happy I felt comfortable but I am not fooling anyone I am racing this thing, or have the ability to push it. Transition 1
Comments: My motivation was to finish the race after not training. I figured that was better than not doing it at all, so the transitions were taken easy. What would you do differently?: I have to be in the mood to do this with conviction rather than hobble through it. Bike
Comments: I can keep my pedal cadence at 90 pretty consistently but it leads me to going 12/13 mph uphill and 23/24 downhill and 16/17 on the real flat parts. Training again and nee to have a look if I have sensible gearing on bike - big jump between a couple of the gears - both large & small ring - and noticing it more. Transition 2
Comments: Was in no hurry to hit the run Run
Comments: crap What would you do differently?: train Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: complete lack of training. could make excuses but i didn't train and need to if i want to be competitive - or be able to be proud of doing it. Finished it - but this year let myself down by not training at all - last year was my freebie to figure out the sport and this year was my full year to train and i didn't do anything. Not saying it didn't hurt because it did - but I didn't leave it all out there and as I don't consider myself someone who enters competition to 'take part' and finish I am extremely unsatisfied about it. I finished which is great but now I've had a day to think about it I'm pissed with myself. Event comments: I think the Chicago Tri is set up really well and for the amount of people they have I think it's a great event. Last updated: 2006-03-21 12:00 AM
