Run
Comments: Run went good, about 1.5 miles into it, I slowed down and reminded myself that there was still a bike and another run after this. about the first two miles of the course are up hill with the steepest hill at about 8% grade. What would you do differently?: Train more outside. Unfortunately most of my runs leading up to the race had been on a treadmill, and I was not all that ready for the hills. Transition 1
Comments: I'm guessing on time, could of been longer. Transition a little slow. Untying running shoes and loosening laces enough for next run slowed my down. Got a quick drink, put on biking shoes, helmet, sunglasses quickly and exited transition. Clipped in and off I went. What would you do differently?: Need to get something like Yankz for my running shoes. Bike
Comments: Bike went really good. Our training rides we always climb hills, so that helped a lot. I passed a lot of people on the bike, and especially on the hills. When I was done, I realized that I never got passed. What would you do differently?: I would've pushed a little harder on the bike. I was too worried about the second run. Transition 2
Comments: Again a guess at time. Was slower than T1. Rode up to dismount line, unclipped and jumped off bike. Fast walk to rack. Took off shoes and helmet and changed to running shoes quick...then I tried to eat a gel and just made a sticky mess, maybe got 1/2 of it down. Dropped my sunglasses in the sand and had to clean them off and clean my sticky hands. Ran out of transition pretty quick, but as I was fumbling with the gel and my glasses, I saw several people leave the trasition. What would you do differently?: Again would help to have something like yankz for the running shoes. Main thing would be a have watered down a gel in one of those little bottles that I could drink in a couple of gulps on the bike instead of in transition. Run
Comments: Legs felt a little wobbly out of transition then just kind of heavy for a couple of miles. Hills seemed steeper this time around, I only walked once, at the water station for about 10-15 seconds while I took a couple gulps. What would you do differently?: Maybe try and push a little harder. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little and ate a banana and drank some endurox. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, particularly outdoor training. Relying on the treadmill and the riding the bike outside once a week won't cut it. Event comments: Was my first multisport race. Had a good time and was glad to meet other BTers Codytriguy and Pilgrim. Looking forward to seeing them at more races. Last updated: 2006-03-22 12:00 AM

Got up around 5:00 and checked my bike to make sure everything was OK. Ate a PB&J and drank some water and waited for ABQkid to pick me up. We left about 6:30 and got there a little before 7:00. Transistion was pretty empty so we picked a spot and setup. It was our first multisport, so we just watched others setup and copied them.
Got to meet a couple of other BTers, Codytriguy and Pilgrim, both real nice guys. It was really cold, so bascially I just stood around with my jacket on and found a porta potty to use. Decided that we should do something to get the blood going before the start, so we jogged in the parking lot for a few minutes then headed to the start line. Made sure the Garmin 301 was ready to go, and waited for the gun.
