Run
Comments: Need to seed myself better at the start. I got into the front of the 10+ minute mile group, even though I knew I could do this faster. Of course, 1st mile was spent dodging runners and wasting valuable time. 1st mile split was 10:40. Had a ton of energy and felt awesome, so I decided to get aggressive. At mile 1, went into a full sprint to get some space, pace dropped to a little over 8 min miles. By the time I hit University, felt awesome but knew that pace wasn't realistic. Dropped down to 9 minute pace until Alameda, and went back to 8:30 pace. Maintained that through the turn @ Downing and back to 9:30. By the time I got back to University and mile 4, I was getting burned out. I thought they'd have some gel with the water, but no can do. Glycogen was running low and I needed to conserve energy, so dropped the pace to 10:00. At about mile 4.5, my heart rate was screaming, and needed to walk for 10 secs. Decided to sprint out the last 1/4 mile, and finished with a PR. What would you do differently?: Carry electrolyte or survey the course. This was the first year they didn't distribute Clif Gels. Post race
Warm down: Needed to distribute cards for the Denver Triathlon and answer questions. Lot of people noticed my wicked cool shoes. Also ate a bagel and banana, got a Myoplex down- I still needed to swim afterwards. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm 6'5 and 248- built to swim fast :) Event comments: This was the best run I've had in ages. I was 90% on. I felt today for the 1st time (in 4 years of doing multisport) that I'm actually becoming a runner. I enjoyed myself completely- and I discovered the joy of running. Really. Packed the night before, got everything together for once. Wanted to make sure I had to only worry about running. Up @ 7:45, out the door by 7:55, and on the race site @ 8:30. Banana, tylenol, and espresso. Made the decision to not wear the HRM and let my body tell me when to chill.
One mile walk to start line, then dropping my bag at bag check. No friends here which was weird. Managed to stretch a bit, only concerned about focusing 100% on the race.
