Pre-race routine:

Race report shows swim first, but it was actually a backwards tri, Run, Bike, Swim.

Woke up around 5:00am and double checked my bag filled my bottles with accelerade and endurox. Ate a PB&J and a small cup of water. Checked my bike tires pressure and waited to ABQKid to pick me up.
Event warmup:

We arrived about 1hr early and learned they are not going to have assigned transition, to we picked a spot close to the bike exit so that we didn't have to run too far in bike shoes. Mostly just walked around and talked to everybody. Jogged around the parking lot for about 1 minute and went to the start line.
Swim
  • 08m 28s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went good, except that I entered the pool with about 5 other guys so we had a little cluster of people. Got smacked once on the head, and went a little slower than I wanted to because of the group. Was able to pass them on the wall eventually.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the pool faster to get ahead of the group.
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

T1 was from run to bike.
It started good, then I dropped my sunglasses and as I tried to pick them up I dropped my bike. Doh.
What would you do differently?:

Not drop my bike.
Bike
  • 36m 30s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt good, except the head wind on the uphills.
What would you do differently?:

Get aerobars.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

This was a transition from bike to swim. Got undressed quick, then I had to run about the full length of the trasition area bare foot, and the parking lot was kind of rough and scratched my feet a little.
What would you do differently?:

Have tougher feet.
Run
  • 22m 21s
  • 3.08 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt a little dehydrated before the race but was afraid to drink to much. I thought I might cramp or need to use the restroom. As we took off I looked down at about the 1/4 mile mark and noticed that I was maintaining about a 6 min/mile pace and immediately slowed down. I felt pretty winded at the end of the run so I knew I pushed a little to hard at the start. Good run time for me, but I was slow in the middle mile due to starting to fast.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more earlier in the morning. Start off a little slower and maintain a faster pace in the middle.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around inside the pool with ABQKid and cheered for the other athletes finishing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably uncertainty, being that it was my first ever tri.

Event comments:

The race was very organized, and the course was well marked. I'm glad to have my first tri under my belt. It was good seeing Codytriguy and Pilgrim again and thanks guys for all the great advice.
