Swim
Comments: Well, this is where I messed up the most. Didn't eyeball the course enough and also thought the sprint people were in my wave. I had a good draft going on the swimmer in front of me. I started wondering where I was to go, was afraid I'd follow feet on the wrong path if the sprint people were turnig before me, duh, so stupid! I kept lifting my head and stopping a few times to see if I was supposed to turn at the buoy the feet in front of me did, goggles fogged, not sure, finally I started swimming again, after a while my brain clicked in and I realized the sprint race was after the olympic, ugh, too much time was wasted with that freaking nonesence, rooky mistake. Also, aside from that I swam too wide, I did start in front like I wanted to but never did before and I was fine, no one swam over me. I really need to tighten up the swim and keep it close to the bouys, I think swimming wide like I did cost me...I kind of knew I was wide early on but wasn't sure if I should leave the feet in front of me b/c of the nice pace I was getting, it was a cunundrum. Other than these problems, it was one of the nicer race swims, it wasn't so crowded as others, was able to use some good form (I think ;) during most of the course....at least when my freakin head wasn't out of the water wondering what stupid buoy the olympics should turn at! What would you do differently?: Get it strait what group will be in the swim ie just oly or with sprint people Really get familiar with course, know where to turn, BEFORE getting in water Swim closer in to the buoys, too much time wasted swimming wide. Transition 1
Comments: Think I improved my T1...havn't looked at last year time..but I did think I could cut it to at least 1:45 so I'm a bit dissapointed in that. I went sockless and that saved me some time I'm sure, not sure what to do to make it faster, I guess this is where experience would help out, time will cut it down hopefully. What would you do differently?: Probably could have found bike faster could always get suit off faster maybe leave ear plugs in, I usually do but just had a desire to scoop them out Bike
Comments: Did well on the bike for me, pushed it harder that I have in the past, worked out ok. (cal 1,246) What would you do differently?: Just train more and harder to I didn't have to drain my legs for the run. These girls have nice run splits so I need to improve my strength in both. I basically have zero cornering skills, Roberst says he'll take me out nad give me some pointers, I need to make sure that happens, I'm very cautious and that's costing me some time. Transition 2
Comments: Find my spot faster, ugh, not too bad but definately need improvement. What would you do differently?: Would love to actually have tri shoes and come into T2 with feet on top, don't know when that will happen but that would save time. Find my spot faster! Run
Comments: Well, I really gunned it. Was hitting 7's the first mile maybe 2 not sure, was very breathless and was happy for the hose at station 1. Most of the time I didn't look at my split b/c I knew I would want to go faster but it would have crashed me I'm sure. I looked at HR lots and would dial it down a notch when it would hit 174. After 1st loop I was dreading the 2nd loop, just wanted it to end, kept looking for ages on calves and past a few. Had to drown out the hurt and just keep focused. Right at the end, there was maybe 1/4 mile left so I had already started my end kick, there was a female calf that had 40 on it so I put on the afterburners to try and catch her but one of my club cohorts was in the cheering section and he said "go get her!! well, I think she knew it was her b/c the faster I ran the faster she ran, she beat me by 5 or 6' hard earned for sure. Turns out she may have only been in the sprint race b/c the girl that beat me was was like 6 min ahead of me on the run. I soo want to catch her next year! What would you do differently?: I really need to improve my run fitness, I know I always say that but there's always something preventing me from pushing where I want to go, so injury prone. I will try to run more at least, they say run frequently, sometimes hard so maybe I can switch up my routine over the winter and see how that works. Probably need to start doing club track workouts, I'm sure they're killer...one of the reasons I don't go..wimpy,wimpy,wimpy ;) Really though, the run on this race was good for me after my effort on the bike. Post race
Warm down: walked around to catch my breath after the death sprint, there was just not enough oxygen in the air for me, I definately left it all on the course, I'm happy about that now but I hurt then. Stretched some, ate pizza, grapes, bananna, drank recoverite. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being a rooky and making dumb mistakes. Need to be more aware of swim race course not just the bike and run. Need to improve fitness, would like to beat an 8min split on my runs by next year, good luck with that sista ;) Swim more effiently on course, close to buoys. Event comments: It was a great race, had a ball. It was hot but not nearly as bad as I expected, though really on the 2nd loop of the run it felt really hot but may have only been 85. was able to dump water on head and chest at each station, that was nice. Oh one thing, when I started running my stomach was swashing around, gross. I looked later and my 24oz bottle was only 1/2 gone, I had one gel about 25min b/f swim, 1 gel 25min into the bike and a few maybe 6 of those caffiene gelly beans. Guess that was too much...or maybe the kaopectate which I took 45min b/f the swim didn't settle right, not sure. Eventually the sloshing stopped, I chose to throw the water on me instead of drink it, took maybe 2 or 3 tiny sips to wet mouth. Last updated: 2011-03-03 12:00 AM

Slept too late, on purpose b/c of babysitting debacle, not sure if she was coming or not yadda, yadda. Woke up, threw egg on pan,got dressed, flipped egg over, got sport drinks, cream cheese on bagel. Got coffee made and ran out the door. Not the way I ever want to sleep (or not sleep as the case may be :( or wake up and have breaky but managed ok anyway.
Just walked around talking to friends, put Body Glide all over my feet since I was going without socks for race. Borrowed Jims shirt to stay warm, jumped up and down and tried to stay warm. Took shot of kaopectate to ensure the late coffee drinking wouldn't come back to haunt me. Did a couple mock runs from side of corral to my bike, not easy to find, ugh.
Finally hit the water, swam a little but not nearly enough for a warm-up.
