Total Time = 3h 13m 34s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 295/350
Pre-race routine:

3 hours of sleep after taking the family to Lion King the night before. I wouldn't recommend this. I ate bars and crap. Not well planned out.
Event warmup:

Walking a mile to the swim start.
Swim
  • 25m 39s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

I suck at swimming and I have some serious psychological issues to get over if I hope to do better. I panic. I can't breathe. All I can do is turn over on my back and try to relax. I drank way too much of the Hudson!!!!!!
What would you do differently?:

I would train more in my wetsuit and drink less of the nasty river.
Transition 1
  • 06m 14s
Comments:

Long run to T1. Shower was a nice touch.
What would you do differently?:

I tried the no socks thing. BAD MISTAKE!!!
Bike
  • 1h 33m 33s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.94 mile/hr
Comments:

After the terrible swim, I was lucky to have done as well as I did on the bike. I actually avg. 18.5 mph, except for the long puking breaks. Yes. Two of them. The first was about 2 miles in to the bike and i was able to do it over the shoulder while still riding slowly. The second was at mile 8 and I was hanging over the guard rail. YUCK. I did get lots of encouragement from passerbys. The sick stomach meant no fuel whatsoever on the bike. No Gatoraid. No gel. No bar. Just half a bottle of water. Makes for a rough ride and then run.
What would you do differently?:

Not puke.
Transition 2
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

Included a quick stop to the portapottie
Run
  • 64m 48s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Tough run with no fuel - weak. Very hot. The no socks might've worked if it weren't for the shower that I was given by a volunteer on mile 1. Wet shoe and no socks = worse blisters I've ever seen in my life. But, I never stopped and I fealt strong - not fast, but strong. I hoped to average just below 9min per mi. but it wasn't in the cards in the heat, dehydrated and weak from stomach sickness.
What would you do differently?:

Wear socks and avoid water spray.
Post race
Event comments:

Loved it. They do need more people out on the bike course - lots of flats. Also, there should be a way to have the transitiion areas divided so that the late swim starts don't have to be at the transition area so early in the morning.
