Pre-race routine:

First time racing, arrived at race site 2 hours before, just walked around killing time and speaking to few people.
Had a terrible night and was up at 2:30am, so I drank little too much coffee and had to use the restroom 3 times before the race (not good).
Event warmup:

Little bit of stretch and little jog
Run
  • 21m 50s
  • 2 miles
  • 10m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I was planning a 20 min run, but since I don't have a watch it gets little hard to pace. Started the race all the way in the back and just kept this way, don't think I got passed and didn't passed anyone
What would you do differently?:

have a watch to help with pace.
Transition 1
  • 00m 31s
Comments:

Same run and bike shoes so all I had to do was throw my hat into the floor, get helmet and bike.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 24m 54s
  • 18.63 miles
  • 13.17 mile/hr
Comments:

I stayed with a group of another 8 riders for most of the circuit, around 2/3 into the race the group dispersed into smaller groups. Around mile 17 I had a blown rear tire. and got passed by all the riders that were still on the race.
My goal for the bike was 1h30m, did in 1h24m including time to change tire, I'm very happy with the bike section. Don't think I rode more than 100 miles in the bike since I got it last Aug and before that was at least 13 years since I last rode a bike.

What would you do differently?:

read the USAT rules, I think I disturbed a few riders not staying at right lane all the time and received a warning about drafting near the end for not knowing the correct distance to keep. Will study the rules to do better on next one. Invest in clipless pedals

Transition 2
  • 00m 24s
Comments:

Only problem is since I was the last one there, the bikes aroun me took my spot and I had to move them a little, didn't take any time but I didn't want to move someone else bike
What would you do differently?:

nothing, again just mount the bike, take helmet off and get my cap
Run
  • 26m 18s
  • 2 miles
  • 13m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

little run, little walk. because of the flat tire, I started the run knowing I was dead last, walked a few minutes with another runner, we exchange little motivation and I kept my walk / run, during the second half of the first mile, all the competitors that were in the bike with me passed me coming back. Left very little motivation since I knew I couldn't get to them, second mile was a mix of walk run again, just want to leave little energy to cross the finish line running, :-)
My goal for this run was 30 minutes to make a total race of 2h20m. Did in 26 min.
What would you do differently?:

Train bricks more and again have a watch to keep control of pace. After the finish I was sure my second run was over 30 minutes, and wasn't.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around little,

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Never trained run after bike and second run was very slow. Should be more disciplined with training schedule.

Event comments:

Liked the race, officials helped with tire change and tried to keep me motivated to not give up, he was repeating when I was changing the tire that I could not DNF since I was so close to the end. Also when I finally arrived to T2 most of volunteers were there to give a final push.
First time racing. Was aiming for 2h20min, did in 2h14min.
