Run
Comments: The first leg of the run is 10km. It was relatively on flat ground except for the turn around the Convention centre which goes up a slope before hitting on flat ground again. For the first time I managed to clock about 51mins for 10km run. What would you do differently?: Not sure what I could have done differently right now but I certainly felt tat I should try to achieve this again in future race. Transition 1
Comments: When I reached the transition i quickly put on my helmet and sun glasses and rushed out with the bike for the 50km cycle. Just as I rushed out of the transition area, I realised that I forget to switch my running shoe for the cleat shoe. I dumped my bike just outside the transition and rushed back in (did not step on the transition mat) took my cleat shoe, rush out, put it on and start my ride. Was pissed off with myself for not taking out the cleat shoe during the prep. What would you do differently?: Prepare the cleat shoe and put it outside instead of inside the shoe bag. Bike
Comments: The cycle leg was supposed to be 50km but it turns out to be at least about 58km. It was a torturous ride with endless slopes going up to highways after highways. We got to do 2 laps of the cycling route passing the transition area. I find it very demoralising to see other riders passing me. It gets lonely after a while with lesser riders left on the road. I have to keep motivating myself not to give up. I stop twice to stretch as my back hurts very badly. I had to push the bike up one slope as I have no more energy left. As I was reaching the transition area to finished the cycle leg, I was very motivated again. As I was going down a slope heading back to the transition, I heard some noise from the wheel. Then I realised that my tyre punctured. I tried to brake and in so doing fell on a grass patch with the bicycle as the rear tyre was the one punctured. What comes to mind in that instant is never to give up. The race is not over yet. I decided to take out my shoe and run with the bike on foot (with my socks on) to the transition area which is about 2km away. Along the way, some thought that I am giving up. I told them that my tyre punctured. When I reached the transition a lot of people were already completed the race. Some were pushing their bike out of the transition area already. What would you do differently?: Ride more on hilly terrains in the future. Transition 2
Comments: This was much more smoother than the first transition. Saw Steven at the transition. He has finished his race. My goal at that point of time was just to complete the race. Dumped my bike, put on my running shoe, took a Powergel and I run for the next 5km. Run
Comments: I managed to overtake other people who were starting to walk for the last 5km. I continue to run till I reached the end point. I felt relieved that I finished the run finally. I complete the race in 4 hours 15 mins. This is the longest race in my life so far. Post race
Warm down: Was too relieved about finishing the race. Had some cut oranges at the finishing line. Didn't do much stretching after that as I was just too exhausted to do anything else. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough cycling during training. Event comments: I learnt never to give up even when there is a problem. The slopes and tyre punctures are some life stumbling blocks that I will probably have to live with before I reached my finishing line. It was a tough race not only physically but also mentally. There is a lot of things that went through my mind over the weekend. Things that is beyond my control. Last updated: 2006-03-24 12:00 AM

On the eve of race, we realised that the hotel that we are staying is far away from the race venue. Had to get up at 4am to prepare and have breakfast . Ate a biscuit and a glass of milk. Drove to the race venue in Putrajaya from Demansara. Took about 1 hour to reach Putrajaya. Prepare the transition and felt hungry so I took 1 Powergel just before the run starts.
Did some light running before the race begins.
