Pre-race routine:

Was running this as a training run. Did not taper and, after a 17 hour drive on Friday and 20 mi bike ride yesterday, was not worried about the time at all. But the event was supporting Moffit Cancer Center where they took good care of my Dad, so the cause was an important one for me. I was glad that the timing of our trip to Florida allowed me to run it.

Up at 5:00, but moving slowly and then had to rush at the end. 2 cups of coffee and some yogurt.
Event warmup:

Just some stretching and walking. 1st mile would be warm-up
Run
  • 1h 54m 50s
  • 13.3 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice light showers as we started across the bridge kept us cool. Good mental challenge for me as I wasn't feeling rarin' to go. Met a few nice folks along the way. Was sorry Mel wasn't able to run. Would have enjoyed meeting her in person.
What would you do differently?:

Generally pretty happy. Without the drive and having a taper would have improved time, but a solid run, well under 2 hours.
Post race
Warm down:

Just a stretch and a gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No taper, pretty long bike the day before, and a long ride in the car.

Event comments:

Okay, I just have to say it... the two half marathons I've raced are the Hooters Half Mary and the McDonald's Half Marathon... anyone else find this somewhat ironic?

Performance: Good
All miles were under 9min/mi, including the bridge miles. Very happy with my pace and last mile was under 8:30.
Course: Really nice course through old neighborhoods in Ft. Myers. I had never been through this area before as it is about 30 min from where my Mom lives. Enjoyed getting to see a different part of town. Bridges were the challenging part. Seemed like the first one was a little steeper than coming back.
