Swim
Comments: Pretty happy with my swim... I may have gone a bit too fast. I am not sure if the wetsuit would have helped or not... I swallowed a bunch of water. Some of my friends said afterward that they recognized people during the swim. I couldn't see a thing. I was in the first wave of five. The next four started every 3 minutes afterwards. What would you do differently?: Wear a wetsuit? Transition 1
Comments: Not too bad of a transition. Though they organized the transition area by swim speed so the bike rack was pretty crowded as we were all similar in swim speed. Its hard to move really fast in the mud :) What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: The bike started out with a hill of mud to leave the transition area. I was honestly thinking about how dirty my brand new bike was getting :) Once on the bike there was a hill leaving the transition area that was pretty steep. After maybe .5 miles, the 4x6 mile loops started. A nice part about being in the first loop was that the course was pretty empty at this point. For the entire bike it was misting and the road remained wet. I was feeling good in my new Elite bike so I pushed the first loop too hard. My HR was way too high. The second loop started with my husband of 2 weeks, Patrick, screaming my name which was nice... As each loop went on my HR got more in check, but unfortunately the damage of going out too hard was already done. I had two gels during the ride. I stayed 95% of the time in the aerobars because I was super comfortable... :) What would you do differently?: DONT GO OUT SO HARD!! Transition 2
Comments: Forgot my race belt until I almost left transition area! OOPS What would you do differently?: Remember my race belt :) Run
Comments: This run was really hard. Every step was painful. I didnt bonk but I surely was worn out from the swim/bike. I need to work on pacing. What would you do differently?: Enjoy the pain :) Post race
Warm down: Stretching and whining... :) Should have warmed down more. I did see another woman swimming in the lake. Next time I may have to try this. It looked nice. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not wearing a wetsuit? Not pacing well. This was only my first olympic distance tri and my second tri ever. Event comments: THis was a great race, except for the weather. It is really nice to have such a great triathlon less than 5 miles from home. Many people I know were racing and that was fun! Woke up at 4:40 and quickly ate oats and egg whites like normal. We were going to leave at 5:30, but decided to stay until 6ish because it was STORMING outside. Showed up at the transition area and got set-up.
I waded into the water to check the temp and decided to NOT wear my wetsuit. The water temp was 78 degrees and I think I would have burned up if I wore my wetsuit.
