Swim
Comments: I didn't have too long to wait to feel the water. The start was a time trial, so each swimmer entered the water individually, 3 seconds apart. I liked this start because I hate the huge pack of people entering at once, but the shock of the water temp was almost overwhelming. I started to breast stroke and couldn't catch my breath, but I told myself to calm down and by the time I got to the first turn (about 100 yds) I was gradually getting used to it. By the second I felt strong enough to freestyle and I swam pretty well for the rest of the time. What would you do differently?: I guess, I would get a wet suit for this race, if I did it again. But otherwise I was ok with how this went. Transition 1
Comments: It was good to run from the pond to the bike, because it gave me time to warm up. I was on autopilot, i put on my socks and sneakers and buckled my helmet. When I got my bike off the rack I tried to jog with it but I felt uncoordinated so I just walked as fast as I could to the mount area. There was a big pile up here of people trying to mount, but I just hopped on and started to pedal. What would you do differently?: Maybe I would try to run a bit more, but I think it was a fine transition. Bike
Comments: Well, I felt really great on the way out. I passed many riders all the way down to the turn around. I knew that many of them would probably pass me on the way back, but I was happy I could have these little victories for a bit. I reached the turn around very quickly like 25 minutes or something, this was good as I knew I would need that saved time for the climb back up. It was a mostly a gradual climb, but there were a couple of steep hills at the very end. It was very fun though and people were really friendly and encouraging for the most part. I loved the bike ride. What would you do differently?: I guess I would try to pedal a little harder on the climb, but overall I felt I was pushing my limit. I practiced many hills where I live, so I felt pretty well prepared for this bike route. Transition 2
Comments: So I guess I went over the wrong mat on the way back from the bike route. There was someone in my way and the race volunteer didn't direct me. So this was my own mistake. But I don't know exactly how long this transition took. I'm guessing at what my transition time was, but I don't have to change shoes, just rack the bike, take off my helmet and put on my running hat. so it shouldn't have been longer than the first. What would you do differently?: My legs were pretty shaky so I didn't run with my bike and walked to the run start. So, I guess I need to practice more bike run bricks. Also, I would ride over the correct mat! :) Run
Comments: I could tell I was pretty slow, but it was hard to get my body to move any faster. Other racers were so encouraging that by the time I got to the first mile marker I finally felt that I had my stride. I did walk up the two little hills, but i ran the rest of the way and did my best to push at the finish. What would you do differently?: I need to do more bricks so that I can get the transition from bike to run going a little better. Post race
Warm down: I found my sister and we walked over to the town center where they had food. I thought there would be snacks somewhere, but i missed it. I drank a gater aid and realized that I was really thirsty. So, I guess I didn't drink enough on the course. We, relaxed for about 20 minutes, but we had to get going so we headed over to the hotel where I showered and we headed for home. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I did my best for where I am at right now. I do need more running training, but I knew that was my weakest part going in. Event comments: I would like to do this race again. I had alot of fun and it was really challenging for me. Last updated: 2011-03-08 12:00 AM

I was the first person at the registration tent at 5:30 AM, the volunteers were barely awake. So I picked up my packet, got body marked and racked my bike. I realized I had 1.5 hours to kill so I went back to the hotel(about a 5 minute walk) and got some $ to get breakfast. I had coffee and a croissant and a granola bar. And sat by the lake while the rest of the racers filtered in to the town square. The location was so beautiful in a small valley surrounded by the white mountains.
I really didn't do much other than people watch and wonder just how cold the swim was going to be. I didn't have a wet suit (nearly everyone else did) and they finally announced that the water was only 67.5F. Augh! Now I was really worried.
