Overall Rank = 94/121
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Wake at 4:45AM. Had english muffin and a banana. Filled up water bottles.
Event warmup:

Short swim in river. Static stretches.
Swim
  • 09m 32s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Never relaxed even after the warm up swim. Very difficult start. Got kicked, pushed down, had to stop and let the huge crowd go ahead of me. It was a wall of feet. Two people swam right over me. One held my leg-don't think she was signaling to pass, just annoying!
What would you do differently?:

Start on the outside of the pack. Even though that would mean swimming a tad further, it would have been worth not all the physical contact.
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Transition went well. I did a better job of multi tasking. Didn't take Gu in transition, instead took it on the bike, better use of time.
What would you do differently?:

Didn't dunk feet in water pan, wish I had. All through the bike my feet felt grit and was uncomfortable. The transition area was astro turff, and had black pebbles throughout it, which stuck nicely to wet feet.
Bike
  • 34m 8s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.09 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought the bike went well. Great course, flat and fast. There were turns, but not corners. Easy turns. However, for the first race, I didn't pass anyone. Even though I had my fastest bike time, I was standing still compared to most bikers. They flew past me!
What would you do differently?:

Practice more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Slow transition. Dunked feet to get rid of black grit from T1. As usual, didn't put on socks, as I have practiced and raced three times prior. This time, I ended up with three bad blisters.
What would you do differently?:

Blisters could have been due to feet being wet from dunking in water. Usually I dunk feet at T1 Trying to save time did not pay off.
Run
  • 32m 32s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Drank most of water given a mile 1 & 2, poured the last few drops on head to keep cool. Didn't have much in the legs left from hammering the bike. Just wanted to NOT walk! Bad feeling.
What would you do differently?:

I hadn't practiced much prior to this race running on tired legs. Need to do that. Not much I could have done differently during the race, maybe use my arms more.
Post race
Warm down:

Banana and water. They didn't have any sports drinks, which I would have liked. Felt light headed, had to sit for a while.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Tired legs in the run, from hammering in the bike. Still very anxious in swims, can not get bilateral breathing down in race situations.

Event comments:

Great race! I would have liked to have sports drinks available post race. Plenty of officials, even saw official three times on bike corse riding a motorcycle. Great course, just loved this race! AND they give finishers' medals!! Yay!
