Swim
Comments: I was in the first wave, the under-40 men. Probably about 80 guys. I took the advice of others and started in the back on the outside. That was a little bit of a mistake, because lots of other people did the same thing and it was really congested back there. Some really slow people (one doing the backstroke!) and lots of others swimming all over the place. I remember one time finally finding a lane to squeeze through two guys only to get closed off and have to find another lane. Plus, my left goggle was leaking, so I'd have to stop every few strokes and empty it. And the buoys were on my left, so I really couldn't see them too well. I ended up swimming about 20 yards past the last buoy and then on the way back, got too close to the inside. The womens' wave caught me and I was in the middle of that mess. But I survived and finished the 1/2 mile swim in 16:27. What would you do differently?: Get goggles that don't leak, get googgles that aren't blue, so I can see the bright orange buoys. Get in ahead of the back pack. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Try no socks, don't lube up as much. Bike
Comments: Definitely the one area that I can do a lot of improvement. What would you do differently?: Don't put sunglasses on handlebars, don't eat gu at start of race and go faster. Transition 2
Comments: Very impressed, very fast T2. I was happy. What would you do differently?: Learn to dismount faster. Run
Comments: I felt good and felt like I had the right pace throughout. I passed more people than passed me. What would you do differently?: Go faster with better training Post race
Warm down: Non existent, stopped to talk. Should have walked it off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Eating Gu, dropping sunglasses, goggles leaking. Event comments: Firm seems to do a really good job. I look forward to other Firm run events. Last updated: 2006-03-25 12:00 AM

Just a little swimming to get a feel for the water.
