Sunny
Total Time = 58m 30s
Overall Rank = 16/142
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 8/37
Event warmup:

Short swim to get used to the spring fed lake. Short bike ride on last mile of trail.
Swim
  • 05m 15s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Need to get back in the water and start pushing the swim, I can complete the courses but without any real speed.
What would you do differently?:

Swim training this winter, and late into the fall OW.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Tried to race without socks, and a little tape on the heel to stop blistering. I am thinking about getting a pair of tri shoes so I don't have to deal with thinking about it.
Bike
  • 29m 6s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Tried using toe clips to help keep my feet on the pedals, last year I lost touch quite a few times in the real rough stuff. They worked okay and kept my feet on the pedals but were hard to get into on the lumpy grass area that the start was on.
What would you do differently?:

A little more single track riding/racing would help with the bike section.
Transition 2
  • 00m 20s
Comments:

Easy in easy out. Kept telling myself "I am light I am fast"
Run
  • 22m 53s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

A little heavy legged from pushing the bike ride. As always, looking back I should have gone harder.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Quick swim to cool off, bike ride to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of swim time/speed. I did hit my goal of under 1 hour so I am happy with that. Last years time 1:00:15 this year 58:30

Event comments:

This is a great beginner race, I have introduced 7-8 people to this sport in this race over the last two years. A few are hooked and the others have a great story to tell.

1 mile warm up "all road"
Wind: None
Course: Single track loop on hiking trails. This is the only biking that gets done on any of these trails and are grassy, muddy, and has roots sticking out all over. It is a blast! I went with a cyclecross bike instead of a mountain bike, it was faster but not as fast as the top riders. This may be a little lite duty for this race track.
